Tu Kham Tran busted another player at his table, doing his small part to reduce the field down to a final table. With 85 players remaining however, there is still a lot of work to be done.

This time the unlucky player was Christopher Turnbull. Although we joined the table too late to see what he had, Tu’s 4 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds was enough to dominate with his two pair, as the board was dealt 7 of Clubs 4 of Spades 3 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds.

    The crowd continues to thin

Christian Rho just busted Tyler Carslaw on table 34, with Tyler’s pocket Jacks not enough to withstand the power of Christian’s AK.

Tyler: Jack of Hearts Jack of Spades

Christian: Ace of Diamonds King of Clubs

Both players got their chips in preflop, with the board being dealt 8 of Clubs 7 of Clubs Ace of Spades Queen of Spades 7 of Diamonds. Christian can be seen below counting his chips carefully. A good win, but he’ll need even more if he wants to survive to the final table!

Whereas earlier in the day the number of players in the tournament was constantly increasing, at this point the number of participants will only shrink. We have now pass the 100-mark for the second time today – but this time moving in the opposite direction.

Case in point: On table 25 just now, Tu Khan Tran faced off in a battle against Tommy Inthouray that saw Tran come out victorious, successfully chasing Tommy out of the tournament.

When we joined the action the board was showing 7 of Spades 3 of Clubs 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades and Tommy was all in with an Ace of Diamonds Jack of Clubs.

Tu, on the other hand, called Tommy’s all in with his 8 of Clubs 10 of Clubs. Any 6, Jack or club would get Tu the win, and as he had hoped, a winning card come down on the river. It was a King of Clubs, and Tu made his flush while Tommy was sent packing.

Registration is now closed for the Deepstack $300 + $30

Level 6 has just ended and therefore registration is officially closed for this event.

We had a total of 129 entries, and currently there are 105 players still in contention for the $30,000 minimum guaranteed prize.

Good luck to all the competitors!

Langlois pushes Robertson off a hand

    • Level: 6

Four cards had already been dealt when Stephen Langlois opened with a bet of 5,200. His only opponent Travis Robertson re-raised to 12,000. Considering the average chip stack is only 34,705 at the moment, these were pretty large bets.

Not to be outdone however, Stephen upped the ante again by re-raising all in, drawing an insta-fold from Travis. We didn’t get to see what the players had as their hole cards, but that was the point of Stephen’s aggressive shove.

He collected the substantial pot and the dealer shuffled up the cards, ready to move on to the next hand.

Although we missed the hand, as we passed table 26 just now we were flagged down by the players at the table who regretted the fact that we had missed a killer hand.

However, one of the players had taken a photo of the cards on the table during the all in showdown, and so we can relay the story to you through the power of forensic poker reconstruction, a skill all Playground bloggers are expected master.

Alain Corriveau looked at his hole cards, seeing a 10 of Clubs 10 of Spades must have thought he was in a good place. All in against his opponent, his heart no doubt dropped when he saw Olivier Brossard flip over his pocket Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds!

But the crazyness was not over yet.

The flop was dealt Ace of Clubs 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds, giving Olivier a full house, Aces over Tens and simultaneously giving Alain quad Tens! The turn/river didn’t help Olivier – only the final Ace could do that – and so Alain doubled up and eliminated Olivier from the tournament.

    That’s the beauty of poker!

As we were passing by table 34 just now we noticed some unusually large bets, considering the blinds are at 75/150.

The flop had already been dealt 2 of Spades 7 of Diamonds 4 of Spades when Dimitri Tchakarov opened with a bet of 3,600. It was called by Remi Bourque and an 8 of Hearts came down on the turn.

At this point Dimitri led out with a bet of 6,100, equivalent to 40bb. This was too much for Remi, who smartly folded. Dimitri turned over his low two pair (a 2 and a 4) and collected the rather large early pot.
