The 2nd of 10 starting flights in the Extravaganza has just resumed after the players’ second break of the day and 4 players have taken a significant lead on the field to this point. In the chip lead is Badrick Heybelian, who is already playing over 100K (from a 15K starting stack), while at the break Michel Lemieux (72K) and David Assouline (69K) were reasonably close behind. Lucian Mariuta rounded out the leaders, playing approximately 60K coming out of the break.

Michel reported to us that in his case, he has had quads twice today already including immediately after the break, so he has already improved on his 72,700 count we just recorded!

Next up is Day 1c

The 4:00pm starting flight – Day 1c in this year’s 6th Anniversary Extravaganza – is set to go as the dealers have taken their place at their starting tables and stacks are ready to hand over to players as they arrive.

Late registration for this flight is open until 5:30pm, so be safe on the highways and take your time if the roads are still slippery – you’ll start with a full stack whenever you arrive to play today!

Here are a few photos from the second of 10 starting flights. With 137 runners in this flight, 14 players will qualify for Day 2.

Remember that anyone who doesn’t make it through one starting flight may play others – in fact, even if you DID make it through you can play additional starting flights – only your best stack goes forward to Day 2. PLUS – if you manage to qualify for Day 2 more than once, your best stack will go forward and your smaller stack will be redeemable for $300!

Just 11 players remain in Day 1a as it plays down to 5 players that will qualify for Day 2. With one more elimination they’ll be brought together on a single table where play will continue.

The big chip leader at this point is Rene Theberge, but Yan Gohier has a very healthy stack as well. On the other end of the spectrum, David Brillon has been nursing a very small stack – for hours. There’s no doubt that he possesses the skill to take a small stack and make it large just when he needs to!

WOW! Chef Haddad does it again

When he called his company Wow Cakes, Chef Fadi Haddad inadvertently put a lot of pressure on himself… but it’s safe to say that his work easily lives up to the company name. We’ve never been disappointed, and this year is no exception!

The cake has been delivered and “installed” – it is set to be served to customers here at Playground Poker Club tonight. Here are a few photos of the edible art.
