Anniversary Series $550 Deepstack Champion: Pierre Andre Prevost

2015/12/19 - 0:24 by Playground Poker

Anniversary Series $550 Deepstack Champion: Pierre Andre Prevost

Although heads-up play started quite even in stacks, with both players holding over 50 big blinds to start, it didn’t take long for Pierre Andre Prevost to start chipping away at Alexandre Lavigne’s stack. After a few orbits, Pierre had a healthy 6-to-1 chip lead on his opponent, leading up to the final hand of play.

Pierre opened to 60,000 from the button, and was faced with an all-in worth around 350,000 by Alexandre. He thought about his options for a moment before committing the chips, and found himself way ahead, as he tabled Ace of Spades 7 of Clubs versus the Ace of Hearts 3 of Spades of Alexandre. The flop changed everything though, as Alexandre paired his kicker, however the river gave Pierre the better hand, as the final board showed 6 of Spades 2 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds King of Spades 7 of Diamonds.

With that win, Pierre collected a cash prize worth $12,495, as well as bragging rights, while Alexandre pocketed $9,45 for his second place finish.

Congratulations!

    3rd place: Simon Huard-Dufresne

Simon Huard-Dufresne opened to 40,000 from the small blind, and found a call from Alexandre Lavigne in the big blind. On a flop of 7 of Clubs 8 of Clubs 7 of Hearts, Simon fired 55,000, and then pushed all-in following a raise by Alexandre to 120,000. Alexandre made the quick call, and the two players tabled their hands.

Simon: 5 of Spades 6 of Clubs
Alexandre: 7 of Spades 10 of Clubs

Simon needed to spike a straight card to survive, but was drawing dead once the turn brought the 10 of Diamonds. The river was a meaningless 2 of Hearts, and Alexandre scored the double up. He slid forward 459,000 chips, and once all was paid out, Simon was left with only 6,000 to his name.

He chopped the very next pot, and then was eliminated on the hand following this.

    4th place: Jeremie Bilodeau

After falling quite short stack, Simon Huard-Dufresne moved all-in a few times in the last few orbits, each of which remained uncalled.

On the most recent hand, he moved all-in from the button, and this time found action from Jeremie Bilodeau in the small blind.

Simon: 10 of Hearts 10 of Clubs
Jeremie: 8 of Hearts 8 of Clubs

Simon’s pair of tens held up on the 4 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs ;3d 3 of Clubs Jack of Clubs board, and once the counts were done, it turned out that his 288,000 stack had Jeremie just barely covered.

Action was 3-handed on the turn when the fireworks began between chip leader Alexandre Lavigne and Pierre Andre Prevost.

With the board showing Queen of Diamonds 8 of Hearts Jack of Hearts 9 of Diamonds, Pierre lead out for 65,000, and was called by Simon Huard-Dufresne. Alexandre then raised to 205,000, and Pierre quickly moved all-in. Simon got out of the way, and Alexandre made the call.

Pierre: King of Hearts 10 of Hearts
Alexandre: Ace of Spades 10 of Diamonds

Although both players already had the straight, Pierre had it to the king, and had a flush redraw. The river brought the 6 of Hearts, improving Pierre’s hand, and Alexandre was forced to pay out 658,000 to his final table opponent.

Pierre now sits on almost 1,500,000, while Alexandre saw his stack reduced to just shy of 500,000.

    5th place: Rodney Ramalho

Pierre Andre Prevost opened to 25,000 from middle position, and found himself going heads-up to the flop versus Rodney Ramalho in the big blind.

Rodney check-called Pierre’s 40,000 flop bet, on a board showing Jack of Diamonds 7 of Clubs 4 of Hearts, holding around 160,000 behind. When the turn brought the Queen of Hearts, he checked again, and went into the tank after Pierre moved all-in. After a minute or two, he announced the call, and saw he needed some help to survive the hand.

Rodney: Jack of Spades 10 of Hearts
Pierre: King of Spades Queen of Diamonds

The river was a meaningless 2 of Spades, and Rodney’s run ended in 5th place.

    6th place: Patrice Mailloux

We caught up to the action on the river in a hand between Alexandre Lavigne (button) and Patrice Mailloux (big blind). With a considerable amount of chips already in the middle, Patrice fired 40,000 on a board showing Queen of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 6 of Hearts. Alexandre replied with an all-in, which represented Patrice’s tournament life. Patrice threw in a calling chip, but was disappointed to see that Alexandre had ran a straight with King of Hearts 7 of Hearts, beating his set of 3 of Clubs 3 of Hearts.

With that pot, Alexandre increased his stack up to just over 900,000, roughly 1/3 of the chips in play.

    6th place: Patrice Mailloux – $3,250.00

After losing a big pot moments earlier, Rodney Ramalho was able to add a few chips to his stack, and he reshoved over the all-in of G A from middle position, who pushed for 95,000.

Rodney: 10 of Spades 10 of Hearts
    G A: 8 of Spades 8 of Clubs

Board: 2 of Clubs 5 of Hearts 3 of Hearts King of Diamonds 7 of Clubs

    8th place: Pierre Cassivi

Pierre Cassivi was very short stacked but still found a way to limp into the pot from middle position. Action folded around to Patrice Mailloux, who checked his option from the big blind. The rest of Pierre’s chips went into the middle on the 4 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts 2 of Clubs flop, at which point he found himself in a world of trouble, as his 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts were far behind the 9 of Spades 2 of Spades of Patrice.

The running cards (7 of Spades and 5 of Clubs) were of no help, and Pierre’s deep run ended in 8th place.

    8th place: Pierre Cassivi – $1,900.00
