Palanque out in 17th; Hand-for-hand begins

    Erwan Palanque

    Erwan Palanque

Erwan Palanque was holding only a few short blinds when he found himself in the big blind, facing a button-open from Pierre-Paul Paulin. He looked down at a pair and committed the rest of his chips.

Erwan: 4 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs
Pierre-Paul: Ace of Diamonds King of Spades

The board was not favourable for the small pair, and Pierre-Paul scooped the pot on the Jack of Hearts Queen of Spades Ace of Hearts 5 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs board to bring Event 14 on the bubble.

Mandanici-Turcot doubles up; Sokoloff out in 18th

Sergio Iannetti opened to 20,000 from middle position, to which Jason Mandanici-Turcot responded with a 3bet all-in of 84,500. Paul Sokoloff quickly followed up with an all-in for 127,000 from the button, forcing the original raiser out of the hand.

Jason: Jack of Hearts Jack of Spades
Paul: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

The board of 7 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs 2 of Spades Queen of Clubs stayed clean for Jason and his pair of jacks, and picked up a pot of roughly 200,000 to keep him in the game as we near the bubble.

Paul Sokoloff was left quite short after the hand, and was eliminated in the following hands.

Event 14 is off its third break of the night, and level 10 has just begun. Although the original plan was to play 16 levels today, the TD decided to cut it back by one level to 15 total for today. The players still left holding chips at the end of this will return tomorrow for the conclusion of the event.

Tony To, better known by his alias “GameBoy”, has been making heads turn in this edition of The Playground Poker Fall Classic, as he not only won Event 5 – $1,000 + $100 NL Hold’em, but then ran deep the WPT Montreal, where he made a huge comeback on the final 3 tables from 1/2 a big blind to over 150 times that amount, before finally crashing near the end of Day 3.

He currently leads this Event 14, as his stack approaches 4 times the average stack. Here are the top stacks entering level 10:

First Name | PrénomLast Name | NomStack | Tapis
    Tony "GameBoy"To195,300
    Trung HieuHoang158,500
    MarcoCaza146,200
    Andrew Tai137,600

We will bring you full coverage of this event once it reaches Day 2, starting tomorrow at 12pm. You will be able to find the full list of player-reported chip counts shortly after the completion of Day 1, as well as tomorrow’s new seating assignments.

    7th place: Chris Arvanitis

    7th place: Chris Arvanitis

Shortly after doubling his stack up through AJ Gambino, Chris Arvanitis got involved in another huge pot as a big favourite.

He opened to 160,000 from the cutoff, and was called by Brian Altman in the big blind. On a flop of Queen of Clubs 4 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds, Brian check-raised Chris’s bet of 250,000 up to 625,000. Chris then quickly responded with an all-in, and Brian made the call.

Chris: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds
Brian: King of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Chris was in a great spot to win the pot of roughly 4-million, and with the 9 of Hearts peeling off on the turn, he had but one more street to fade. Unfortunately for him, the river brought the King of Clubs, eliminating him 7th place, one spot shy of the official final table of the WPT Montreal.

His deep run earned him a payday of $72,510, while the other six players locked in their seat for tomorrow’s final table.

    7th place: Chris Arvanitis – $72,510

Reiner Kempe placed a min-raise from under the gun, and AJ Gambino flat-called from the button. Chris Arvanitis then (quite messily) 3bet to 330,000 from the small blind, triggering a fold from Reiner. AJ came over the top with a quick all-in, which found an even quicker call.

AJ: Queen of Hearts Queen of Spades
Chris: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs

Chris flopped a set to take a stranglehold of the hand, as the board ran out Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 10 of Hearts, and doubled his 875,000 stack to nearly 2-million.
