Two levels have been played out so far here in Day 2 of The Wild $150, and the players have been awarded a short break as the tournament staff races off the T100 chips. We have seen a lot of movement since the start of the day, as 76 players have already been eliminated today. Sid L has sprung up into the chip lead, and he is trailed by Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugeois and Duy Toan Pham, who were were the two chip leaders entering Day 2.

Duy Toan Pham started the day as the chip leader but in the early going tonight he managed to lose about a quarter of his stack while other players chipped up and moved past him into the chip lead in the tournament. A recent hand played against Simon Assouline (who also started with a healthy stack) was another step in the right direction and then some for Pham – while seeing Simon exit the event.

Pham made a big open raise preflop and action folded around to Simon, who thought for a few seconds before declaring “all-in”. The others in the hand folded and Pham instantly threw a chip to indicate his call.

Simon was dominated and found no help on the flop of . The on the turn may have lifted his spirits a little bit, but any hope he had was dashed by the on the river. Simon was eliminated while Pham chipped up to 390K (approximately).

Players are now on a break while tournament staff removes the black T100 chips from play.

There were 339 players to start the day and through the first level of play tonight that dropped to 304 players left in contention to make the money in the event.

Some of the players eliminated early tonight: Louise Lamarche Khanna, David Barter, George Caragiorgas, Alex Keo, and William Latulippe.

The other news from the beginning of the action tonight is that although Guy Carbonneau qualified for Day 2 with a healthy stack, he had a previous engagement (of a charitable nature) away from Montreal. His stack will continue in the event and be blinded off throughout the evening.

We’ve just heard our TD announce the start of the tournament, and with that, cards are in the air here in Day 2 of The Wild $150, the opening event of the Playground Poker Fall Classic presented by Partypoker.net.

339 players are back to battle it out on the felts, but only one will become our Event 1 Champion! The road is still long and full danger for our eventual champion, as two more full nights of poker lay ahead. Day 2 is schedule to play for 13 levels of 30 minutes, after which the tournament will pause until tomorrow night, where we will play down to our winner.

The $188,437.00 prize pool is divided up into 135 prizes, ranging from a min-cash of $280 to a whopping first place prize of $34,000. This does however mean that 204 players out of tonights field will unfortunately go home empty handed, but such is the nature of tournament poker. On the bright side, today is Wicked Wednesday here at Playground Poker Club, which means an early exit from the tournament could lead to a high-hand score on the cash tables!

The Wild $150 restarts at 7pm

Day 2 of The Wild $150 will get underway at 7pm tonight with 339 players returning to the tables, having qualified for Day 2 by surviving one of the four Day 1s that ran from Sunday to Tuesday evening. Day 2 will feature 30 minute blinds and play will continue this evening through another 13 levels.

135 players will cash in this event, which means that just about 60% of today’s starting field must be eliminated before the bubble is reached. This means that there will be a significant amount of play before the bubble hits, and a lot of time for short or medium stacks to build up and join the leaders – or for some of the current leaders to move back to the pack.

Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugois

Duy Toan Pham is the chip leader to start Day 2, playing a 264,100 chip stack, with Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugeois right behind him playing a stack of 262,300 tournament chips. Both players are extremely deep (approximately 110bb each), but through a quirk in the random seating they will find themselves starting on the same table, with Mathieu two seats to the left of Pham. There are two other big stacks on the table as well – Simon Assouline will start with 185,600 (77bb) and Said Michailidis starts with 181,300 (75bb). They’re all starting on table 67, which will definitely be a table to watch tonight.

There are a few other players to watch in the field tonight.

Isham Yamani – Isham is a skilled player who has had some great success in events at Playground Poker Club in the past two years, wtih several final tables and other deep runs under his belt. Isham starts Day 2 with 185,400 chips (77bb).
Cherif Si Hadj Mohand – Cherif is starting Day 2 with 129,100 chips (54bb), which is more than enough to enable him to make a deep run, perhaps rivalling his 2nd place finish in a very similar event this past August in the Montreal Poker Expo.
Jason Conforti – Jason starts with 120,700 (50bb) and will hope to use that healthy stack as a springboard to a second big win at Playground Poker Club following his win in the $1500 + $150 Second Chance event last spring during the Playground Poker Spring Classic.
Guy Carbonneau – Guy doesn’t enter tournaments just for a few laughs, he’s a patient and skilled player who will start today with a solid 43bb stack (103,300 chips).
Others – Some other players in the field to watch include Ryan Higgins, Charles-Eric Benoit, Yohann Wagner, Michael Korovine, Rodney Ramalho, Bob Amireault, and many more…

After 4 starting flights to The Wild $150, the opening event of the Playground Poker Fall Classic, we saw a total of 1,439 players register, creating an impressive prize pool of $188,437! Of this, $34,000 is reserved for our Event 1 Champion, who will also take home a sweet Playground Poker Fall Classic Champions Trophy.

Duy Toan Pham and his 264,100 chips lead the way into Day 2, followed very closely by Mathieu Boulanger-Vaugeois (262,300). 339 players will return for Day 2, which is scheduled tomorrow, Wednesday November 4th at 7pm, where thirteen more 30-minutes levels will take place before the remaining players bag their chips onto Day 3, where we will crown our Event 1 Champion.

We would like to remind all players who have qualified for Day 2 to remember to bring a piece of ID with them, as this will be required in order to take your seat.
