Event 12 – results & payouts

2015/11/18 - 10:42 by

Event 12 in the Playground Poker Fall Classic presented by Partypoker.net was a $1,000 + $100 NL Hold’em tournament scheduled to play out over a single day. There were a total of 153 players in the tournament which produced a total prize pool of $148,410.00 which was distributed according to the following payout table.

Note that there was a player deal reached with 5 players remaining. The players decided to reserve $2,950.00 and the Champion’s Trophy for the eventual winner of the event, and distributed the rest of the remaining prize pool according to amounts negotiated after taking relative stack size into account. The final payouts are reflected in the table below. The order of finish is identical to the order in which they were eliminated from the tournament, while the prize money awarded is based on the player deal. This accounts for the fact that a lower position may have won more money.

Event 12 Champion: Samuel Barre

2015/11/18 - 1:57 by Playground Poker

Event 12 Champion: Samuel Barre

Samuel Barre arrived at Playground Poker Club this morning with the intention of continuing his deep run in the WPT Montreal, as he was one of the 63 players remaining at the start of Day 3. Lady Luck seemed to have a different plan for him however, as he was eliminated in 52nd place after losing a large portion of his chips in what could only be described as a cooler (QQ < AA).

As he was in line at the cashier to collect his almost $10,000 prize from the Main Event, he realized he could still late register for this Event 12. He decided to jump in, and as it turns out, it was a very profitable decision! He built his stack rather early, and remained amongst the chip leaders throughout the tournament, arriving at the final table with nearly double second place in chips.

When play fell 6-handed, the players decided to negotiate a deal. As he was the chip leader at the time, he took the biggest share, pocketing $24,000 in the deal, while an additional $2,950 was left for the eventual winner, along with a Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Trophy.

Play opened up considerably once the deal was struck, and it wasn’t long before he found himself heads-up with a 4-to-1 chip lead over opponent Zheng-Yi Xie. They only played for several orbits before Samuel called the preflop 3bet all-in of Zheng-Yi, and held on to become our Event 12 Champion!

Zheng-Yi, who was on the shorter end of the spectrum when the deal was made, collected $13,630 for his run.

Congratulations!

Two more quick eliminations occurred, as play has been rather loose given a deal was made, and we are now heads-up between Samuel Barre and Zheng-Yi Xie.

Samuel has the current chip lead, holding nearly 3,000,000, while Zheng-Yi has around 850,000 to his name. They are playing for the additional $2,950 left behind after the deal, and a Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Trophy.

Frank Katana was in the small blind with just over 200,000 when he elected to 3bet shove over Samuel Barre’s late-position min-raise. Samuel committed the extra chips, and they tabled their hands.

Frank: Ace of Hearts Queen of Diamonds
Samuel: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Spades

Board: Ace of Spades 10 of Diamonds 2 of Clubs 10 of Clubs Jack of Clubs

Samuel smashed the board, finding a full house and knocking Frank out in the process. He climbed just over the 1 million mark with that pot.

Danielle Micallef was amongst the shorter stacks entering this final table, and she waited patiently for a spot to get her chips in. She was only down to 37,000 when she finally took a shot at an unopened pot from late position, finding a call from both Zheng-Yi in the small blind, and Gary in the big blind. Action was checked down to the river, and on a board showing Jack of Clubs Ace of Hearts 5 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 5 of Clubs, Danielle tabled Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds for two pair, but fell short to Gary’s three-of-a-kind with 10 of Clubs 5 of Spades.

Samuel Barre opened the action from utg +2 to 40,000, and Jordan M flat called next to act. With only 91,000 to her name, Carla Sabini then moved all-in from the big blind, finding a call from both players. It was checked down to the river, where Carla opened Ace of Clubs 7 of Hearts, which was no match to Jordan’s 10 of Spades 10 of Diamonds on a 9 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts 2 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 9 of Spades board.

Francois Goulet took a hit on the first hand of this final table, as he saw nearly half his stack get shipped over to the other side of the table in a coin flip situation, to the hands of Frank Katana. He then played patiently and found a few spots to pick up the blinds and antes, before finally moving in with around 10 big blinds from under the gun and finding a call from Samuel Barre in the big blind.

Francois: 7 of Clubs 7 of Hearts
Samuel: King of Spades King of Hearts

The board of 8 of Clubs Ace of Hearts 2 of Spades Jack of Clubs Queen of Clubs brought no help to Francois, who ended his Event 12 in 10th place.
