The $250 Frenzy Champion: Rami Hammoud

2015/11/11 - 4:58 by Playground Poker

The $250 Frenzy Champion: Rami Hammoud

The road to victory was long and full obstacles, but after 39 levels of play, Rami Hammoud managed to overcome a field of 1,475 to emerge as the Event 3 Champion!

Rami took over the chip lead mid-way through the night, however when play fell short-handed, he gave it up to Michael Korovine before finally grinding his way back into the lead.

He began heads-up play versus Tomas Larivee Magni with a 2-to-1 chip advantage, but a quick double up by Tomas changed the pace of the match. They agreed to an even chop when stacks were close, leaving behind the required $6,400 for the eventual champion, and then went on to play for over 3 levels before Rami finally got the best of it.

Tomas had just doubled his stack up to 10-million (roughly 1/3 of the chips in play) before he min-raised his button, and called the 3bet all-in of Rami. Tomas tabled Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs, while Rami flipped over a trailing Ace of Diamonds 5 of Clubs. The dealer pulled out a flop of King of Hearts 6 of Spades 2 of Diamonds, and Rami’s rail started calling out the cards he needed… “5!”. The turn came a 4 of Clubs, giving Rami more outs… “3!”. The dealer then pulled out the river 3 of Diamonds, and they all went wild! Rami made the runner-runner straight to win the pot, and the tournament with that!

Rami went over to shake Tomas hand, and they both shared a smile for their deep run in this Event 3 of the Playground Poker Fall Classic.

Rami and his rail

2015/11/11 - 3:30 by Playground Poker

Rami and his rail

Rami Hammoud has had over half a dozen of his friends railing him on this final table, cheering him on every time he wins a pot, and encouraging him every time he gives some chips up. Win or lose, it looks like Rami will be well surrounded after all is said and done here in The $250 Frenzy!

(note: there is one intruder in the picture, cheering on Rami’s heads-up opponent Tomas)

A deal has been made

2015/11/11 - 3:16 by Playground Poker

A deal was proposed when play got heads-up, but Rami, with a 2-1 chip lead, refused it. After only a few hands of heads-up, Tomas took over the chip lead by doubling up, and re-proposed the deal. This time around, Rami accepted it, and they decided to evenly chop the remaining prize pool, while leaving the required $6,400 difference for the eventual winner.

They will still play down until a winner, with 2nd place taking home $43,800, and the winner $50,200.

Congratulations!

Heads-up: Rami Hammoud vs Tomas Larivee Magni

With the recent elimination of Michael Korovine in 3rd place, we are now down to heads-up action in The $250 Frenzy.

Rami Hammoud has the chip lead at the start of the heads-up war with 20,400,000, while Tomas holds 8,650,000 to his name.

No deal has been made thus far in the tournament, so they are playing for a $16,000 difference, with the eventual pocketing a whopping $55,000, and a Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Trophy. As a consolation prize, the runner-up will go home with a hefty $39,000 prize.

    3rd place: Michael Korovine

Michael Korovine gave up the chip lead to Rami Hammoud a few orbits ago, and has been playing catch-up since. He managed to get away with a few shove-and-take-the-blinds, but inevitably found a call from Rami on his most recent all-in.

Rami: King of Clubs Jack of Hearts
Michael: Ace of Diamonds 10 of Clubs

Rami, who used up his one time (more than once) on this final table, requested it again, and surely enough he picked up just enough to eliminate Michael on a 5 of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs King of Diamonds 2 of Hearts and bring us down to heads-up.

    3rd place: Michael Korovine – $28,065

    4th place: Andonios Papageorgiou

Andonios Papageorgiou was by far the most active player once play fell to 4-handed, and we must have seen him move all-in preflop a dozen times in the last 2 levels.

After seeing his stack dwindle to 3 big blinds after he doubled Tomas up twice in a row, and then be resuscitated back to over 10 big blinds, he finally got it with 5 of Hearts 5 of Spades versus the Ace of Hearts 6 of Spades of Michael Korovine to lose on a 6 of Diamonds 10 of Spades Queen of Clubs 2 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs board.

    Play is now 3 handed.

    4th place: Andonios Papageorgiou – $21,625

Only 5 minutes has elapsed since the break, and Tomas Larivee Magni has already doubled his stack up twice, both times at Andonios Papageorgiou’s expense.

On the first hand, Tomas moved all-in for 2 million even, and flopped the nuts, then turned the nuts again with Ace of Hearts 10 of Hearts after a call from Anonios and his 8 of Hearts 9 of Hearts on a Jack of Hearts King of Hearts Queen of Clubs 2 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds.

On the very next hand, Andonios moved in form the small blind, and was called by Tomas in the big blind.

Andonios: Jack of Diamonds 7 of Clubs
Tomas: 8 of Clubs 8 of Spades

Board: 9 of Hearts 3 of Spades Queen of Clubs 2 of Clubs 9 of Clubs

Andonios managed to triple up his stack on the next hand, as his 855,000 all-in was called by both Tomas and Rami, and he now holds over 2.5 million.

Korovine calls his way into the chip lead

  • Small Blind: 125K
  • Big Blind: 250K

In a confrontation of the blinds, Michael Korovine called a raise preflop from Rami Hammoud in the small blind, and then proceeded to call on all three streets, including an all-in on the river.

With the board showing 9 of Hearts 8 of Spades 2 of Diamonds King of Diamonds 8 of Hearts, Rami was hesitant to table his hand after his river shove got called, but eventually he turned over 5 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds for a missed flush draw, and lost a massive pot to Michael and his Jack of Diamonds 8 of Diamonds.

With that, Michael climbed up to around 12 million in chips, while Rami dropped to around 5.5 million.

The very next hand Michael took a chunk out of Tomas Larivee Magni to increase his lead.

A break has just begun, and we will bring an update on the chip counts in a moment.

It was starting to look like Rami Hammoud was invincible on this Day 3, as he grew his stack steadily into the chip lead without really taking too many loses.

Moments after a potential deal was refused by some of the players, Andonios Papageorgiu, the shorter stack of the final 4, made a move from the button, going all-in for a little over 3.5 million. He was quickly called by Rami in the big blind, and players tabled their hands.

Andonios: King of Diamonds 2 of Spades
Rami: Jack of Hearts Jack of Clubs

Andonios came from behind and spiked a king on the 10 of Hearts King of Spades 9 of Spades 7 of Clubs 5 of Hearts board to win the 7+ million chip pot, and keep us 4-handed here on the final table of The $250 Frenzy.
