After 26 levels of play combined over 2 days, the starting field of 1,475 entries has been reduced to just 33 players.

We saw the balance in chip leads switch drastically in the last level of the night, as the two top stacks at the start of the level, Santos Ciulla and Alec Brandstatter, both lost huge pots and dropped down the leaderboard. It was finally Bryce Potter who bagged the chip lead, and he will return with 2,560,000 chips tomorrow. Second in chips is Frank Truong, who doubled up in the very last hand of the night to end Day 2 with 2,250,000.

As soon as the tournament staff is done crunching the numbers, we will be publishing the full list of player-reported chip counts, as well as the new seating assignments for tomorrow’s Day 3, which is scheduled to start at 7pm. Below is a table with the top stacks as Day 2 closed.

Be sure to tune in to the blog tomorrow night to follow all the action, as we bring you up-to-date coverage of the conclusion of this 3rd event in the Playground Poker Fall Classic.

    See you tomorrow!

Santos Ciulla has been hovering around the top of the leaderboard since the end of Day 1F last night, but in recent levels has leaped far ahead of the field. He recently crossed the 2-million chip mark, and hold more than three times the average stack at the moment.

Alex Brandstatter, who happens to be at the same table as Santos, is second in chips, as his stack is just shy of 1.6 million. Jaroslaw Zbigniew Jaskiewicz rounds up the leaderboard in third, with a stack of over 1.2 million.

Only 2 levels remain, after which the tournament will go on pause until Day 3 tomorrow.

Last 4 levels of Day 2; 74 remain

We have seen a lot of action in these last few levels, as play considerably opened up after the bubble burst. Only 74 players remain in this Event 3, and they will play through 4 more 30-minutes levels before wrapping it up for tonight. Those left with chips at the end of it all will be back tomorrow for Day 3 of The $250 Frenzy, where we will crown our champion!

    Eric Ranger: the first millionaire

It was only a few hands ago that Eric Ranger was sitting on a healthy 500,000 chip stack, good for a top 10 spot in the leaderboard. Two back to back hands versus table opponent Claudemir De Oliveria quickly change that however, as Eric got the best of him in two hands to more than double his already impressive stack.

In the first hand, Eric was the aggressor in a pot where he rivered aces-up with AK for a 500,000 pot, although it seems he may have been good even before catching his second pair. On the next hand however, he absolutely needed the river, as his Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds overcame the King of Spades Queen of Spades of Claudemir on a King of Clubs 7 of Spades King of Diamonds 9 of Spades Ace of Clubs board to clean out his opponent and build his stack up to 1,060,000.

Double elimination brings us in the money

Hand-for-hand lasted all of 1 hand in The $250 Frenzy, as 2 players were eliminated in the same time to bring this event into the money.

Georges Halak and Shaun Bowring were both eliminated on the bubble on different tables, and therefore were awarded half of 145th place each, or $230 each, while the remaining 144 players have locked in at least $460 each, with $55,000 reserved for the eventual champion.

Nick-Real Seide is well-known as a talented player and someone who can accumulate chips in a hurry, but his build up to start Day 2 of The $250 Frenzy is pretty extreme – in less than one level of play – and without just stacking a single player and taking those chips – he has managed to change around 245K into 545K in tournament chips, and is now the massive chip leader in the tournament.

15 minutes to Day 2 in the $250 Frenzy

    2015/11/09 - 18:49 by

After six starting flights over 3 full days it might have seemed sometimes like Day 2 would never arrive – but arrive it has, and 307 players will be taking their seats in a matter of minutes to start down the road to the money bubble, and eventually to the $55,000 top prize!

At the top of the leaderboard to start the day are three particularly interesting names.

First is Tanvir Ahmed who built and maintained the largest stack in Day 1a – and though it was the smallest starting flight, his stack managed to remain among the top 2 among all of the stacks that will start Day 2! Tanvir has the hot hand, having gone deep in Event 1 just a few days ago.

Second is Michel Naggar, the chip leader to start the day. Michel is a frequent visitor to Montreal and to Playground and though he is apparently a very successful high stakes cash player, he has been heard many times to bemoan his fate in tournaments. It’s all good-natured, though, and he definitely has the experience to go deep in the tourney.

Third is Nick-Real Seide. Nick is a well-known local player – well known for being a very good tournament player. He already has a second-place finish in a previous Wild $150 and has been a winner at events around Montreal for several years now.

Beyond the top-10 on the starting leaderboard there are some other very solid players to keep an eye on. A partial list:

    • Will Molson
    • Michael Korovine
    • Arthur W
    • Jason Conforti
    • Alex Fiorani
    • Jason Mandanici-Turcot
    • Bill Kontaratos
    • Thomas Lefort
    • Ruben Perceval

Day 2 will play out tonight through 12 30-minute levels at which time the remaining players will bag up their chips to return for Day 3. Between now and then, however, we’re sure to reach the money bubble in the event. There is a ton of gripping poker to come tonight, only at Playground Poker Club.
