WPT Montreal Day 1b – final counts

Day 1b of the Partypoker.net WPT Montreal began at 11am on November 14th and played through 10 60-minute levels before play was suspended as scheduled. There were 235 total entries today and of those, 96 players still had a stack at the end of the evening and bagged up their chips to return on Day 2.

This is a next-day re-entry event, meaning that any player – qualified for Day 2 or not – may choose to play in the remaining starting flight, Day 1c. Of course any player who has not already qualified for Day 2 may also play in Day 1c. In the event that a player qualifies twice (or 3 times), only their largest single-day stack will be returned to action in Day 2. Playground Poker Club will report on any such variance along with the full seating draw for Day 2.

The following are player-provided counts and although we do our utmost to verify that players are reporting their precise count, it’s the physical chips sealed in their bags which are returned to play on Day 2.

Day 1c begins on Sunday November 15th at 11am, and Day 2 begins on Monday November 16th at 12pm.

Time is up in Day 1B of the WPT Montreal, and of the 235 players that started this flight, 96 have survived to bag their chips onto Day 2.

Two players share the lead, as Abdallah Aljboul and Marco Caza both bagged 252,000, while Michael Tieu bagged 220,300, good for third place in this second flight.

Michael Tieu built his stack early on in the night, and has steadily been adding to it. He has maintained the chip lead since the early levels, and still holds the biggest stack as play enters level 9.

Day 1B of the WPT Montreal is returning from dinner break, and with this came the close of the registration period. 235 players entered this second flight of the WPT Montreal, bringing our total up to 362 runners so far. Tomorrow is the final flight, as Day 1C starts at 11am, with late registration open until around 6:20pm.

Michael Tieu has already amassed over 145,000 tournament chips going into level 5, which represents a huge lead on the field – 2nd place at the moment is playing just a 92,000 stack. There’s still a long way to go, however, so we’ll be monitoring his progress the rest of the way.

At the end of the last level and during the break we had a few more big names join the event – Liv Boeree, Joe Serock, and Igor Kurganov have all taken their seats in the tournament.

Jonathan Jaffe has entered the tournament in order to defend his WPT Montreal championship, as has his heads-up opponent from last year’s edition of the event, Ratharam Sivagnanam. Also joining the action through the past couple of levels are Freddy Deeb, Danny Suied, Jake Schwartz and local standouts Ami Alibay and François Goblet.

The players in Day 1b are just now returning from their first break of the day. It’s too early in this starting flight to have a real leaderboard, but we did find some larger stacks at some players’ seats and we recorded these on the Chip Counts page.

Action has now resumed in level 3. Players still have over 4 hours to late register, so the numbers will continue to grow throughout the late reg period.
