After five 90-minutes levels of play, Day 3 of the WPT Montreal has come to a close. Of the 63 players that made it to Day 3 today, only 16 were left to bag their chips onto Day 4.

Leading the way into Day 4 is Trevor Delaney, who built his stack from 968,000 to over 3.285 million over the course of the day. Second in chips is Craig Stewart, who ended his day with 2.425 million in chips, while Brian Altman ended 3rd in chips with 1.965 million.

Full chip counts of all 16 players will be published very shortly.

Day 4 is scheduled for noon tomorrow, Wednesday November 18th, and will continue until the official final table of 6 players has been reached. There will not be a redraw to start the day, and players will have the same seating assignments as at the end of this Day 3. The final table will begin on Thursday at 4pm, and will be a full televised event hosted by Mike Sexton and Vince Van Patten. There will be a WPT stage set-up, along with seating for spectators, and anyone and everyone is welcome to come and rail what will surely be an exciting WPT Montreal 2015 final table!

    Game over…

GameBoy’s WPT Montreal has come to an end, and in pretty much the same manner in which it was played all along. When we arrived at the table, there was a large raise in front of Tony but Rainer Kempe has pushed all-in from the bb, obviously pretty sure that Gameboy had nothing.

Tony agonized over the decision for a good 2 minutes… and eventually made the call.

Tony: Ace of Clubs 2 of Diamonds
Rainer: Jack of Clubs 9 of Spades

The call was good! Or, at least not bad, which is pretty much the definition of good in a spot like that.

GameBoy got up on his chair and looked down on the table – at least until he was asked to get off the furniture…

And then the board didn’t cooperate – the flop came out King of Hearts 9 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds to move Rainer into the lead with his pair, and the 5 of Hearts and 7 of Diamonds didn’t fix the problem for GameBoy.

18th place: Tony Vi Thanh To, $22,290

    GameBoy bluffs off a bunch

It’s truly amazing that Tony To has any chips at all, let alone enough to run a big river bluff – but when we arrived at the table with 10 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 2 of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs already dealt, GameBoy was considering his action, playing out of position against Brian Altman. Eventually he confidently exclaimed, “four hundred and fifty K” and pushed out 4 stacks of blues with 2 greys on top.

Brian immediately counted out the chips required to call, and found that he would have under 100K left if he lost… and then after a gut-check he made the call and showed his Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds for Aces up – which was good against Tony’s 4 of Clubs 7 of Clubs.

Jason Mann raised from the hijack to 135K and Brian Altman 3-bet all-in from the cutoff. The blinds folded and Jason asked for confirmation of the amount: 412K total. Jason counted out the chips needed to call and then rearranged the margins of his stack a couple of times… and made the call.

Brian: Ace of Spades Ace of Clubs
Jason: Jack of Spades Jack of Clubs

Community cards: 7 of Hearts 5 of Spades 10 of Hearts 8 of Clubs Queen of Hearts

The board didn’t bail Jason out and Brian scored the full double up.

    “GameBoy is back!”

If you’ve been hanging around the tournament hall here at Playground Poker Club in the past two days, you may have heard the now famous line by Tony “GameBoy” To – “GameBoy is Back!”.

Well, this time, “GameBoy” really is back! After losing a huge pot worth ~1.1 million a few orbits ago to table opponent Craig Stewart, Tony was left with only 9,000 in chips, which was not even enough to post a small blind, and only 3 times the ante at the time. After a few successful double-ups, he quickly found himself north of 300,000.

Just before the tournament went on break moments ago, Tony was facing a raise from Kyle Bowker and a 3bet from Trevor Delaney when he decided to move his 306,000 stack in from the small blind. Kyle then announced his all-in, and Trevor backed out of the hand.

Tony “Game Boy”: Ace of Spades King of Hearts
Kyle: Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs

Tony smashed the 4 of Diamonds King of Spades King of Hearts 10 of Clubs 7 of Hearts board to score more than a double up, exclaiming “Game Boy is back!”, triggering a laugh from the crowd gathered around the table. He now sits on 740,000 going into level 24, as Kyle was crippled to 1 big blind.

Tony is on the run for his second victory in this Playground Poker Fall Classic, as he took down Event 5 – $1,000 + $100 Deepstack – a few days ago for $46,180.

Mike Dentale was in a pot with Sammy Popatia facing a river bet of 175K into a pot of approximately 370K with a board reading Ace of Spades 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades 6 of Clubs 4 of Hearts. The flop was 3-way and had gone check-check-check, then on the turn, Sammy opened the action to around 110K and found one fold but a call from Mike. Mike checked again on the river and Sammy made his bet… and Mike went in the tank, visibly running through ranges and possible hands Sammy might have.

Finally (though no one seemed inclined to call time), Mike flicked a single 5K chip to make the call… and flipped over 2 of Clubs 2 of Hearts – which he was certain was 100% good. And he was correct – Sammy flashed an off-suit Queen – Jack.

    The dealer pushed the pot.

The remaining 24 players in the WPT Montreal are just back from an extended break and we took the opportunity to refresh the chip counts for the entire field. Visit the “Live” Counts page for the full list.

The short summary version is that there are currently 3 players effectively tied for the lead with 1.8M chips: Harpreet Gill, AJ Gambino, and Trevor Delaney. The entire top 10 are currently playing more than 900K – and after that there is a little cliff down to the next group of players in the 500K to 600K range.

Play has slowed right down from the pace that has characterized much of today, but the slow pace won’t last – there are enough short stacks that we can expect movement before long.
