    7th place: Chris Arvanitis

Shortly after doubling his stack up through AJ Gambino, Chris Arvanitis got involved in another huge pot as a big favourite.

He opened to 160,000 from the cutoff, and was called by Brian Altman in the big blind. On a flop of Queen of Clubs 4 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds, Brian check-raised Chris’s bet of 250,000 up to 625,000. Chris then quickly responded with an all-in, and Brian made the call.

Chris: Ace of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds
Brian: King of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Chris was in a great spot to win the pot of roughly 4-million, and with the 9 of Hearts peeling off on the turn, he had but one more street to fade. Unfortunately for him, the river brought the King of Clubs, eliminating him 7th place, one spot shy of the official final table of the WPT Montreal.

His deep run earned him a payday of $72,510, while the other six players locked in their seat for tomorrow’s final table.

    7th place: Chris Arvanitis – $72,510

Reiner Kempe placed a min-raise from under the gun, and AJ Gambino flat-called from the button. Chris Arvanitis then (quite messily) 3bet to 330,000 from the small blind, triggering a fold from Reiner. AJ came over the top with a quick all-in, which found an even quicker call.

AJ: Queen of Hearts Queen of Spades
Chris: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs

Chris flopped a set to take a stranglehold of the hand, as the board ran out Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 10 of Hearts, and doubled his 875,000 stack to nearly 2-million.

Another level has passed us on this final table, and we are still but one elimination away from having our official final table of 6 players in the WPT Montreal. Brian Altman has continued to maintain control of the table, and has chipped up to 7,600,000, but Darryll Fish is slowly creeping up on him, having accumulated 4,580,000 in chips so far.

Here are the current standings, as the tournament enters level 28:

Following an open to 115,000 from Jared Mahoney, AJ Gambino slid forward his 815,000 stack. Rainer asked for a count, and after a short moment he announced a call. The rest of the players got out of the way, including Jared, and cards were tabled.

AJ: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Rainer: 10 of Spades 10 of Clubs

Board: 9 of Spades 5 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts Queen of Clubs Jack of Spades

After missing the flop, AJ found some help on the turn to keep this final table 7-handed, as he doubled his stack up to over 1.8 million.

    Action continues….

    Dentale eliminated in 8th

Michael Dentale and Brian Altman just played a hand that, at this phase in a tournament, almost plays itself, although it’s almost a shame considering the skilled choices that both players have made throughout the event so far.

In any case, Brian raised to 110K on the button, and Michael raised all-in from the small blind. The big blind insta-folded… and Brian snap called.

Brian: Ace of Clubs King of Clubs
Michael: Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds

The flop removed any suspense from the hand: Ace of Hearts 5 of Clubs Queen of Clubs and the Queen of Spades and 6 of Hearts that completed the board did nothing to help Michael.

With one more elimination, the Official WPT Final Table will be established (6 players) and play will be suspended for the day.

    8th place: Michael Dentale, $57,720

Brian Altman opened the action to 110,000 from under the gun, and found calls from Michael Dentale (utg+1), Darryll Fish (small blind) and Rainer Kemp (big blind). On a flop of Ace of Spades 2 of Clubs 10 of Clubs, the blinds checked it over to Brian, who fired 160,000. Michael got out of the way, and Darryll went in for a raise to 510,000. Rainer mucked his hand, and Brian tanked for a moment before making the call.

Heads-up on the 6 of Diamonds turn, Darryll fired again, this time for 710,000. Brian went into the tank a second time, and after around 3 minutes he finally let his hand go.

“I know what you had there Darryll” said Michael, once the hand was over; “you got lucky there kid, I had Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs”. AJ Gambino interrupted Michael, saying that it was not possible as he had folded the Ace of Clubs preflop. “Ok Ok fine, I had two red kings there”, added Michael, as players smirked at his radical change in apparent holdings.

    10th place: Craig Stewart

In a preflop raising war between Darryll Fish (utg) and Craig Stewart (button), both players were more than happy to find all their chips in the middle given the hole cards they were dealt. Once the hands were tabled though, Craig realized that his red King of Hearts King of Diamonds were going to need some help to overcome the Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds of Darryll.

The dealer brought out a board of 9 of Spades 9 of Hearts 9 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 3 of Hearts, and although Craig used his “one time”, he found no such help and was eliminated out of the WPT Montreal in 10th place.
