Palanque out in 17th; Hand-for-hand begins

    Erwan Palanque

    Erwan Palanque

Erwan Palanque was holding only a few short blinds when he found himself in the big blind, facing a button-open from Pierre-Paul Paulin. He looked down at a pair and committed the rest of his chips.

Erwan: 4 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs
Pierre-Paul: Ace of Diamonds King of Spades

The board was not favourable for the small pair, and Pierre-Paul scooped the pot on the Jack of Hearts Queen of Spades Ace of Hearts 5 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs board to bring Event 14 on the bubble.

Mandanici-Turcot doubles up; Sokoloff out in 18th

Sergio Iannetti opened to 20,000 from middle position, to which Jason Mandanici-Turcot responded with a 3bet all-in of 84,500. Paul Sokoloff quickly followed up with an all-in for 127,000 from the button, forcing the original raiser out of the hand.

Jason: Jack of Hearts Jack of Spades
Paul: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

The board of 7 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs 2 of Spades Queen of Clubs stayed clean for Jason and his pair of jacks, and picked up a pot of roughly 200,000 to keep him in the game as we near the bubble.

Paul Sokoloff was left quite short after the hand, and was eliminated in the following hands.

Garen Galanti started the day with one of the smallest stacks in the tournament but has patiently waited and found his opportunity to double up.

Garen was on the button facing a utg raise to 10K from Michael Noor when action folded around to him. After a few seconds of consideration, he raised all-in for 43K. The blinds both folded and Michael asked for the initial 10K to be pulled in (bets aren’t normally pulled in at Playground but will be on request) and got the count of Garen’s remaining stack: 33K. He was a little hesitant, but he counted out the chips to make the call and a few moments later put them in the pot.

Garen: Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds
Michael: Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts

The board run out was perfect for Queens: 9 of Diamonds 5 of Spades 3 of Spades 3 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds and Garen’s stack was suddenly up to 99K.

Gameboy gets it in good; loses

If there were “poker gods” the one thing that would be advised would be to not tempt them or challenge them in any way…

    Tony To

    Tony To

Tony “Gameboy” To was in the big blind facing a raise from Darryl Beal on the button. He 3-bet to 37K, only to face a 4-bet to 90K from Darryl. Gameboy made the call and the flop was dealt: 3 of Clubs 3 of Spades King of Hearts. Gameboy was first to act and decided to play in flow: check. Darryl quickly bet all-in (he had 62,500 chips behind)… and Gameboy instantly called, slammed over his pocket Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds and made a rather loud exclamation, with associated fist pumps, when he saw Darryl’s Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs.

Then he got on the chair (for just a second before someone noticed and had him step down), gave out a cry as the 5 of Hearts was dealt on the turn… and ran from the table as the dealer laid out the Queen of Spades – Darryl got there with his pocket Queens. Now it was Darryl’s turn to let out a whoop (in response to the over-reaction he had been faced with) and stack up Gameboy’s additional 62.5K he was owed.

Gameboy was left with just under 40K in chips – but we’ve seen him make a huge comeback before in the Fall Classic, so it’s far from the end of the Tony “Gameboy” To story!

The 22 players who qualified for Day 2 have taken their places and play has resumed in the $1,500 + $150 NL Hold’em Second Chance event in the Playground Poker Fall Classic presented by Partypoker.net.

The players are seated at the same seats they finished in last night as a redraw had just been performed with 27 players remaining before the end of Day 1. There will be another full redraw at 18 players remaining, and the money bubble will be reached when the 16th player is eliminated – 15 spots will pay in the event.

    Good luck to everyone today!
