Desmarais out first on Day 2

  • Level: 16
  • Small Blind: 2K
  • Big Blind: 4K

Benoit Desmarais started the day with just 41K in tournament chips and was deep in a hand but also in good shape on a board of 10 of Hearts Jack of Hearts 5 of Hearts Jack of Spades and pushed all in for his remaining few chips. Bill Loukanikas quickly made the call and turned over Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds facing the King of Spades Jack of Clubs held by Benoit.

Just like that, however, the Queen of Hearts was dealt on the river giving Bill the nut flush and sending Benoit to the rail.

Kazarian starts with a double up

  • Level: 16
  • Small Blind: 2K
  • Big Blind: 4K

  • Chip Average: 150.7K

  • Entries: 211

  • 2015/11/11 - 12:11 by

One of the shortest stacked players to start today was local tournament regular George Kazarian, and on the first hand he faced a raise to 8K when action came to him. He raised all-in for just over 30K and got the call from Patrick Braga.

George: Jack of Hearts Queen of Spades
Patrick: King of Clubs 6 of Clubs

The flop Jack of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 10 of Spades was good for George and the remaining community cards did nothing to change this: 6 of Spades 4 of Spades and he managed to get a little more ammunition to start the day.

    Event: Event 5 - $1000 + $100 NL Hold'em Deepstack

Day 2 is ready to burst!

    2015/11/11 - 11:55 by

Day 2 of Event 5, a $1,000 + $100 NL Hold’em Deepstack tournament, is set to start in about 5 minutes, and when it gets going, all indications are for the action to be very fast right out of the gate.

There are 35 players returning for the re-start today, and among them are 7 starting with 13bb or less. As well, there will be a full seating redraw at 27 players remaining, so there won’t be a lot of time for people to get settled before they’re changing seats… and then the bubble arrives. 24 players will be paid in the event, so as soon as the redraw is done, the small stacks will immediately be under pressure.

The players are assembling around the tables right now and we’ll be on hand all day to cover the action!

Event 5 Day 2 – Seating Draw with counts

    2015/11/11 - 0:11 by

Play has concluded after 15 levels in Event 5, the $1,000 + $100 NL Hold’em Deepstack event in the Playground Poker Fall Classic presented by Partypoker.net. Play will resume tomorrow, November 11th, at 12pm (noon). There are 35 players left in the action and when they return, they will be seated at 4 tables as per the following chart. There will be a full redraw at 27 players remaining, and once the tournament is at 3 tables the money bubble will be imminent, so the action should be fast and furious right from the beginning of the day.

There are two other tournaments going on tonight at Playground Poker Club, but the $1,100 Deepstack has soldiered right along as the others were getting started. The event is currently in level 11.

There has been a minor change to the schedule – the Tournament Director has decided to wrap up play tonight at the end of the 15th level of play, rather than the 16th level as scheduled. This will give everyone a little more time to rest before coming back tomorrow for the re-start at noon – and it will do so without a drastic effect on the overall time to play the tournament to a conclusion tomorrow.

The players in Event 5 have just taken another break and are back at the tables for another 3 45-minute levels. Entering level 10, Justin Ouimette retains the chip lead though he is followed closely by Fabio Luongo and new leaderboard entry Brian Iseman. There are a few players just 20K to 30K behind, so at this point in the event it’s really anyone’s game!

In case you missed it, during the last session we published the payout schedule for this event – 24 places will be paid and there’s $49,530 up top!

    2nd break; registration is closed

The players in the $1,100 Deepstack have just returned from their 2nd break of the day, which also means that registration is now closed in the event. The final tally of players in the tournament is 211, which will add up to a very nice prize pool. Tournament staff is working on the numbers and we’ll be able to release prize pool information soon.

During the break we managed to find the chip leaders at the current time. Throughout the event you can click on the link with the black background on the upper right of the page to access “Live Counts” which are updated as often as resources permit. The top 5 at the break:

Will Failla has also jumped into the event as total participation closes in on the 200 mark.

The field continues to fill up as the day goes on and a few high profile players have joined the field along with some talented players who may not yet have made a “name” for themselves but are nevertheless players to watch.

    • Eric Afriat – Eric is a talented local player who has had enormous success in some of the biggest events in the world, including a million-dollar cash and championship at the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in Hollywood, FL in 2014.
    • Yann Dion – Yann is a fixture at big events here at Playground Poker Club, and has been a fixture at big European events for several years now, achieving a great deal of success on a regular basis. Known primarily as an online wizard, Yann has made a very strong transition to the live game as well.
    • André Boyer – André is quite simply Quebec’s first poker legend. He won his first WSOP bracelet in 2005 after more than a decade of published cash results in US tournaments – and then in the summer of 2015 proved that poker is not just a young man’s game with his second bracelet win.
    • Carter Swidler – Carter hasn’t made a huge breakthrough in a live event (though he has plenty of small and medium cashes going back years) but he’s been at the absolute peak of online poker for years and is most certainly one of the most prominent online players in history.
    • Timothy (TJ) Ulmer – TJ is another online poker legend like Carter and Yann, and has been considered among the best of the best for years, having racked up victories in many of the major online series’ over the years.

In addition to these players there is also a long list of players in the field with more limited profiles but who nevertheless have proven their ability in the past, either here at Playground or elsewhere. Some of these are:

    • Noeung Troeung
    • Patrick Braga
    • Chris Arvanitis
    • Gary Lucci
    • Lonnie Hallett
    • Justin Miller
    • Roger Lamia
    • Carla Sabini
    • and many more…
