Brian Altman opened the action to 110,000 from under the gun, and found calls from Michael Dentale (utg+1), Darryll Fish (small blind) and Rainer Kemp (big blind). On a flop of Ace of Spades 2 of Clubs 10 of Clubs, the blinds checked it over to Brian, who fired 160,000. Michael got out of the way, and Darryll went in for a raise to 510,000. Rainer mucked his hand, and Brian tanked for a moment before making the call.

Heads-up on the 6 of Diamonds turn, Darryll fired again, this time for 710,000. Brian went into the tank a second time, and after around 3 minutes he finally let his hand go.

“I know what you had there Darryll” said Michael, once the hand was over; “you got lucky there kid, I had Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs”. AJ Gambino interrupted Michael, saying that it was not possible as he had folded the Ace of Clubs preflop. “Ok Ok fine, I had two red kings there”, added Michael, as players smirked at his radical change in apparent holdings.

While the final 8 players of the WPT Montreal were on break, we brought an update on the leaderboard. Brian Altman is still the man in charge, and has built his stack up to 6,740,000. 10th place: Craig Stewart

In a preflop raising war between Darryll Fish (utg) and Craig Stewart (button), both players were more than happy to find all their chips in the middle given the hole cards they were dealt. Once the hands were tabled though, Craig realized that his red King of Hearts King of Diamonds were going to need some help to overcome the Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds of Darryll.

The dealer brought out a board of 9 of Spades 9 of Hearts 9 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 3 of Hearts, and although Craig used his “one time”, he found no such help and was eliminated out of the WPT Montreal in 10th place.

    10th place: Craig Stewart – $31,910

Darren Elias came into the day as one of the shorter stacks, and knew he was going to have to be active if he wanted to turn things around. He lost a few pots early on to find himself nearly crippled, before finding a pocket pair of jacks which tripled him back into shape.

Moments later, he min-raised his button in an unopened pot, and found himself heads-up with AJ Gambino in the big blind. On a flop showing 3 of Diamonds Jack of Hearts 9 of Spades, AJ check-called a bet of 95,000, which brought out the 7 of Spades on the turn. AJ checked again, and this time raised all-in following a 160,000 bet by Darren. Without any hesitation, Darren snap called the all-in, and was in a world of trouble, as his two-pair with 9 of Clubs 3 of Clubs was far behind the set of 3 of Hearts 3 of Spades of AJ. The river 10 of Hearts changed nothing, and Darren saw all but 100,000 of his recently acquired chips move to the other side of the table.

He then found a double up the very next hand, as his Ace of Hearts 8 of Diamonds rivered a straight against the King of Hearts King of Spades of James Yang on a board showing 5 of Clubs Queen of Clubs 10 of Spades Jack of Clubs King of Diamonds.

He picked up the blinds and antes with an uncalled all-in the next hand, and was then moved to the other table to balance the tournament, as Trevor Delaney was recently eliminated.

After a few hands on his new table, Darren found all of his chips all-in preflop versus Darryll Fish:

Darren: Queen of Clubs Jack of Clubs
Darryll: Ace of Clubs 5 of Hearts

Board: 7 of Hearts 5 of Spades 5 of Diamonds King of Spades 2 of Diamonds

Darryll hit the board hard, and after one wild roller coaster ride, Darren’s WPT Montreal came to a close in 11th place.

With his elimination, the field is now down to 10-players, which are all gathered on one (unofficial) final table.

    11th place: Darren Ellias – $31,910

    12th place: James Yang

James Yang was grinding the short stack most of this Day 4, and when he looked down at a suited-ace in the big blind facing a raise from Carter Swidler in middle position, he decided to go for it and moved all-in for around 9 big blinds. Carter made the call, and the two were heads up with hole cards tabled.

James: Ace of Spades 7 of Spades
Carter: King of Clubs 9 of Clubs

Board: 3 of Hearts Jack of Spades King of Hearts 10 of Clubs 3 of Diamonds

Carter improved his hand by pairing the flop, which was enough to eliminate James in 12th place.

Delaney is the next to go

Trevor Delaney, a PEI-based player who was a final tableist in the last WPT Canadian Spring Championship, has been eliminated in 13th place.

When we arrived at the table the hands were already tabled – Trevor was playing Ace of Clubs 8 of Hearts against Brian Altman’s Ace of Diamonds 5 of Hearts on a board of 7 of Clubs 5 of Spades Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs. Trevor had been outflopped by Brian and the King of Diamonds on the river didn’t change a thing… Trevor was left with nothing to do but to walk to the Tournament Desk for his payout ticket.

Brian, on the other hand, has chipped up to over 5,500,000 tournament chips today and is the current leader by quite a margin.

    13th place, Trevor Delaney, $25,810

    Elias wins a big one

Darren Elias is far and away one of the most experienced and skilled players left in the tournament, but he had gotten very short-stacked and was looking for good spots to move all in to try and build back up. And build back up he did.

    Darren Elias

    Darren Elias

Chris Arvanitis made a min-raise+ preflop and Michael Dentale just called, aware that Elias was both short and in the big blind. As they predicted, Darren moved in for his last 300K. He found a call from both Chris and Michael.

There was a possible side pot between Chris and Michael so cards were not exposed right away and the flop was dealt: King of Hearts 4 of Clubs 3 of Clubs. Both Chris and Michael elected to check. The turn was the 2 of Diamonds and the action again went check-check. The turn 9 of Hearts had the same outcome and all three players exposed their hands:

Darren: Jack of Clubs Jack of Spades
Chris: Queen of Hearts 10 of Hearts
Mike: 6 of Diamonds 6 of Hearts

Darren ended up stacking 915,000, enough for 23bb.

Brian Altman leads entering level 26

After a short break, players of the WPT Montreal are back at their seats, as play resumes in level 26. We’ve lost three players so far in this already action-packed Day 4, as Harpreet Sign, Randall Pfeifer and Jason Mann have made early exits.

Brian Altman is leading the way with 13 players remaining, and his 4,170,000 betting units far outnumber the rest of the field. Here is a look at the chip distribution, as play enters level 26:

    Swidler doubles before the break

    2015/11/18 - 13:49 by

The players in the WPT Montreal have completed their first level of the day and are now on break.

The last hand before the break saw some blind-on-blind excitement between Carter Swidler and Michael Dentale. The two have been tangling regularly as Carter started the day relatively short-stacked and has had to pick strategic spots to try and keep his head above water. In the hand in question, Michael was in the bb and Carter the sb and when it folded around to Carter, he raised all-in for 390K. Michael made the call and the hands were tabled.

Carter: 6 of Hearts 9 of Hearts
Michael: Ace of Spades 8 of Hearts

There wasn’t nearly as much suspense on the run-out of the board as you might imagine – the flop of 7 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs gave Carter a straight and on the turn he added a flush draw with the King of Hearts – and then Carter got there with the Queen of Hearts on the river.

Carter improved to 815,000 in chips, while Michael was left with 1,320,000.
