Dentale makes a huge hero call

  • Level: 23
  • Small Blind: 10K
  • Big Blind: 20K
  • Ante: 3K
  • Chip Average: 909.1K

Mike Dentale was in a pot with Sammy Popatia facing a river bet of 175K into a pot of approximately 370K with a board reading Ace of Spades 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades 6 of Clubs 4 of Hearts. The flop was 3-way and had gone check-check-check, then on the turn, Sammy opened the action to around 110K and found one fold but a call from Mike. Mike checked again on the river and Sammy made his bet… and Mike went in the tank, visibly running through ranges and possible hands Sammy might have.

Finally (though no one seemed inclined to call time), Mike flicked a single 5K chip to make the call… and flipped over 2 of Clubs 2 of Hearts – which he was certain was 100% good. And he was correct – Sammy flashed an off-suit Queen – Jack.

    The dealer pushed the pot.

The remaining 24 players in the WPT Montreal are just back from an extended break and we took the opportunity to refresh the chip counts for the entire field. Visit the “Live” Counts page for the full list.

The short summary version is that there are currently 3 players effectively tied for the lead with 1.8M chips: Harpreet Gill, AJ Gambino, and Trevor Delaney. The entire top 10 are currently playing more than 900K – and after that there is a little cliff down to the next group of players in the 500K to 600K range.

Play has slowed right down from the pace that has characterized much of today, but the slow pace won’t last – there are enough short stacks that we can expect movement before long.

    Marco Caza eliminated in 33rd

  • Big Blind: 12K
  • Ante: 2K
  • Chip Average: 697K

Local player Marco Caza has been eliminated in 33rd position ($13,370) by Trevor Delaney in a hand that played out quite differently than your normal flip.

When we arrived at the table, Marco was facing a raise to 70K made by Trevor in middle position. After a short period to think about it, Marco re-raised all-in (376K). Trevor didn’t need a lot of time to think about it and he threw in a chip and made the call.

Trevor: 10 of Hearts 10 of Clubs
Marco: Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds

The flop seemed dangerous despite including a King for Marco: 7 of Clubs 9 of Clubs King of Clubs – Trevor had flopped a flush draw to add to his pair, which was now second-best. Everyone was looking for a club when the dealer put out the 6 of Spades, but of course that gave Trevor even more outs – and the 8 of Spades made the straight and Marco hit the rail.

The eliminations keep coming and since this hand another 4 players have been eliminated!

Anthony Zinno has just doubled through Brian Altman in a hand on table 32.

Anthony opened from the hijack to 21K and Norman Howells in the cutoff flat called. Samuel Barre (button) folded, and Brian 3-bet to 65K from the small blind. After the big blind folded, Anthony instantly went all-in for his remaining 166K and after Norman got out of the way, Brian tossed in a chip to indicate a call.

Anthony: Ace of Diamonds Ace of Clubs
Brian: King of Spades Queen of Clubs

No single card would be enough to help Brian and the 6 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts 6 of Clubs was about as safe as could be for the Aces. The 5 of Spades on the turn didn’t help either and Brian hit a useless King of Clubs on the river.

Anthony is now up to 377K – just under the tournament chip average.

Day 2 of the WPT Montreal is a wrap, and 63 players have survived through 19 levels of play over 2 days to bag chips for Day 3. The money-bubble burst near the end of the day, and with it came a slew of eliminations before time ran out for Day 2.

Day 3 will restart at noon tomorrow, November 17th, and will play down until 18 players remain. Coming in with the chip lead is Harpreet Singh Gill, who held his spot atop the leaderboard throughout most of Day 2. He climbed over the 1-million chip mark at the end of the night, before doubling table-opponent Joe Gualteri in the last hands of the night, and finished by bagging 993,000. Not far behind is Trevor Delaney, who ended the day with 968,000. Below is a table with the leaders at the close of the day.

Once all the numbers have been crunched, we will be releasing the full list of player-reported chip counts, as well as the seating assignments for tomorrows Day 3.
