Our PL 5-Card Omaha Champion: Dan Vigderhous

2016/11/16 - 4:29 by Jôle Simard

Event 13 of the Playground Poker Fall Classic was a great success, as 77 players showed up for this fun action-inducing format. 15 of those players re-entered, which made our total of 92 entries, allowing for a very nice prize pool. There were a lot of familiar faces in the field, mostly players who play PLO on the cash side on a regular basis, and also some PLO loving visitors, who were delighted by this format.

The first half of the final table casualties happened in a flash, while the last 4 players standing got do dabble for much longer. In the end, Andy Huynh, who managed to survive under the radar the whole way, was facing Dan Vigderhous, who had just eliminated the other big stack. Andy was sitting on no more than 8 big blinds, so it only took a couple of hands for both to throw the dice and go see a full board together.

Dan Vigderhous: Queen of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds King of Spades King of Clubs
Andy Huynh: 9 of Hearts Ace of Hearts 3 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs

The Queen of Spades 2 of Hearts 7 of Hearts Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs board was in Dan’s favor, completing a full house for him. For his second place, Andy wins $4,700.00, while our Champion wins the awesome Champion’s Trophy, along with $5,212.00, his first prize money.

Congratulations!

How things change fast in this game! Moments ago, Owen was the chip leader, and he is now walking away from the table, eliminated in 3rd place. Dan Vigderhous doubled up on him, and then finished the job. Vigderhous had flopped the nut straight with his 9 of Spades Jack of Spades 10 of Diamonds Ace of Spades 8 of Diamonds. They went all-in on the 7 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts flop, having put quite a few chips in the pot pre-flop. Owen’s 8 of Hearts Queen of Hearts 9 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts was basically a draw, but was quite behind Vigderhous’ nut hand. The rest of the board came Queen of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds, making a running flush for Dan.

Congratulations Adam, you cash $4,300.00 for this nice deep run!

Play has slowed down a little bit now that short stacks are out. The average stack, not long ago, represented about 25 big blinds, which is pretty deep for this stage of the tournament. Players are now back from what was probably their last break of the night. Blinds are now 15K/30K, and below is the current chip distribution.

First Name | PrénomLast Name | NomStack | Tapis
Adam JohnOwen770,000
DanVigderhous765,000
JosephMazeltov410,000
AndyHuynh305,000

At the moment of writing these lines, Mazeltov was eliminated. He limped in, and saw Adam John Owen pot to 135K, which he called. After flopping a top pair, Mazeltov moved in with his remaining 180K, which was quickly called by Owen.

Joseph Mazeltov: 3 of Clubs 9 of Clubs Queen of Hearts 10 of Diamonds Jack of Clubs
Adam John Owen: 5 of Spades :?c Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts Ace of Spades
Board: 5 of Hearts Queen of Spades 4 of Spades 4 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts

Owen grabs a pretty solid lead, while Joseph Mazeltov gets 4th place and the $4,000 that go with it.
Congratulations Joseph!

While the tournament staff was printing Gary Lucci’s 5th place coupon, the last 4 players started to talk about adjusting the prizes. They discussed for about 5 minutes, and finally came to an agreement. The following table reflects the new payouts, and of course, the snazzy Champion’s Trophy is added to the first place money.

Gary Lucci, a former 3-table chip leader, was taken out when his top 2 pairs were buried by Joseph Mazeltov’s top set. The board was 5 of Spades 9 of Clubs Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 5 of Spades, and Lucci was holding 4 of Spades Jack of Hearts Ace of Clubs 7 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds, which was much behind Mazeltov’s Ace of Spades Ace of Diamonds 2 of Spades 4 of Hearts Queen of Hearts. That hand cost Lucci almost all of his chips, as he was left with 2K. He quadrupled up the next hand, but the comeback stopped there.

Congratulations Gary, you cash $2,400.00 for your nice run!

The board showed 4 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 7 of Spades 9 of Clubs, and Gunther was all-in for 148K, into a pot barely bigger than that amount. Adam John Owen tanked for a while, than made the call with 8 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts 9 of Spades 4 of Clubs 10 of Hearts. Gunther tabled 9 of Hearts 10 of Spades 3 of Diamonds Ace of Hearts 6 of Hearts. The river came the 8 of Hearts, completing a full house for Owen, who had 2 pairs and a few straight outs.

Manfred Gunther takes $1,890.00 for his 6th place. Congratulations!

Two quick eliminations happened after the final table formed. We unfortunately missed the action, but we know that Dan Vigderhous profited from the last one in a major way. He is now leading this final table, having passed Adam John Owen, who was in the driver seat for a long time.

The final table is now forming, after a hand that is definitely one to mention. Three players were all-in in a pot that got Dan Vigderhous a lot of chips, and Moshe Cohen to leave one position short of the final table.

Manfred Gunther: 8 of Hearts Jack of Spades 6 of Hearts 5 of Spades 4 of Diamonds
Dan Vigderhous: Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts King of Clubs 4 of Hearts 6 of Clubs
Moshe Cohen: Ace of Diamonds Ace of Spades 3 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds 3 of Spades

In the end, after the King of Diamonds 6 of Spades 10 of Hearts King of Hearts 10 of Clubs board, it was the best of the suited aces that took the pot down, having hit a third king on the turn.

Here is a look at the final table, with Adam John Owen still in the lead, followed closely by Dan Vigderhous.

Players are now back from their second break, and the next stint is expected to see some major pots being played, as the 800/1600 level puts a lot of players under pressure.
