Event 16 Champion: Keith Laflam

2016/11/17 - 4:40 by Jôle Simard

When they started their heads-up match, Cédric Meyer had a 3 to 1 lead over Keith Laflam, and was leaning over him. It seemed like it was just a matter of time before he actually took this thing down. But then Laflam pulled the ole river-check-in-the-dark-raise on him, which pretty much put them on an equal footing.

Then Meyer suffered the beat that cost him the trophy. He min-raised Laflam from the button to 240K. Laflam went all-in, and Meyer snap-called and confidently opened 10 of Clubs 10 of Spades. Laflam tabled Ace of Diamonds 3 of Clubs, and at that point the result was out of their hands. The board hurt Meyer right away: Ace of Clubs Queen of Hearts 5 of Diamonds 8 of Hearts 8 of Spades.

He was left with only a few tokens, which were lost the next hand when Laflam hit a straight and sealed it.

Tough beat for Meyer, but he cashes $4,225 for his effort, while Laflam takes the Champion’s Trophy, along with $5,510 for the win.

Great job and Congratulations to both of you!

Event 16 Champion: Keith Laflam – $5,510.00

Pascal tried to buy the blinds with Queen of Hearts 6 of Hearts, but Cédric Meyer defended with Ace of Clubs 8 of Hearts, knowing he was on a large range, given the size of the blinds. The board appeared: King of Clubs 6 of Clubs 7 of Clubs King of Diamonds 2 of Clubs. Although Monarque took the early lead, Meyer closed him out with a flush.

Great job Pascal! You win $3,110, the third place money!

The tournament is now heads-up.

Pascal monarque opened to 280K on Keita’s big blind, which he was all-in on. Cédric Meyer went all-in for 750K, and Monarque called.

Ismael Keita: Ace of Spades 7 of Hearts
Pascal Monarque: Ace of Clubs 10 of Hearts
Cédric Meyer: Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts

The board was reveiled: King of Clubs 8 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 9 of Spades 10 of Diamonds. Keita first celebrated when he saw his straight, and then he noticed Meyer’s straight. Good run Ismael! $2,330 are handed to you!

James Harrington goes out in 5th

  • Level: 26
  • Small Blind: 40K
  • Big Blind: 80K
  • Ante: 5K
  • Chip Average: 1M
  • Remaining: 4
  • Entries: 161

2016/11/17 - 3:41 by Jôle Simard

James Harrington, the chip leader at the formation of the final table, just left the premises, taken out by Keith Laflam, who is now hidden behind his chips. Laflam shoved from the under-the-gun position with Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs, and was called by Harrington from the small blind position, holding Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts. Both were very healthy, and when the 10 of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds King of Spades 3 of Diamonds 9 of Hearts board brought no help to Harrington, Laflam took the humongous pot, and Harrington had to leave in 5th, but not without cashing $1,350, a very nice amount.

Congratulations!

John Eliakis was the first to leave this final, as his King of Clubs King of Spades fell to Pascal Monarque’s 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs. They were all-in pre-flop, and John was eliminated by a 2-outer when the 9 of Spades Queen of Spades Queen of Hearts 7 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs board arrived.

Fadi Haddad went out the very next hand, when his Ace of Clubs 10 of Spades was out kicked by Ace of Spades Jack of Clubs. The board brought no help: 3 of Diamonds 7 of Spades 2 of Hearts 8 of Hearts 3 of Hearts.

Then it was Mathieu Bergeron’s turn to take the walk. He was taken out in a very similar fashion as Haddad. Bergeron had Ace of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds, and he was facing James Harrington’s Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds. The board came King of Hearts 9 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds 5 of Spades.

John Eliakis: $410
Fadi Haddad: $550
Mathieu Bergeron: $740

Congratulations to all 3!
