Our Fall Classic Event 2 Champion: Chris Annis

2016/11/04 - 5:21 by Jôle Simard

The final table of the $200 + $20 Freeze went down in the blink of an eye. After the first 2 players were sent home, a deal was made, one that left the smallest allowed amount of money riding for the eventual winner. When that happens, and especially at 4:30am, players usually get to the edge of their seats and shoot hard. This is the show that was presented for us tonight.

One by one, they dropped, until Irtiza Malik was left with 350K against Chris Annis’ 3.8M. He doubled up once, but that was it. At his second try, his 5 of Hearts 4 of Hearts had to bow before Chris’ King of Clubs 10 of Hearts. The board came King of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds Queen of Clubs, and that was the end for Irtiza.

Chris Annis had secured the only bigger amount at the moment of the deal, for his chips were noticeably more numerous at that time. To this $5K was added the money allotted to the winner. He is now driving home with a total of $6,108.00, and the second Champion’s Trophy of the Playground Poker Fall Classic.

Congratulations!

Andrew Boujaoude suffered back to back bad beats, to find himself delivering all of his once humongous stack to Chris Annis, who now has 95% of the chips, and is in a more than great position to take home the trophy. Andrew’ 7 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs fell to Chris’ Ace of Spades 2 of Spades when the board showed Queen of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 10 of Spades Ace of Clubs 4 of Clubs.

Good job Andrew!

Players concluded a major deal after 10th and 9th were taken out on back to back hands. Chris Annis secured $5,000, while the others secured $4,250 each. The remaining $1,108 will go to the winner, along with the handsome Champion’s Trophy.

Obviously, action has sped up; it is now moving at light speed.

Daniel Mason took 8th place, while Ryan Michael Press went out in 7th. Then it was Michael Aflalo’s turn to leave the table, taking 6th place. Dov A followed shortly after, taking 5th. Jean-François Stoycheff took 4th.

They all took $4,250 for their nice deep runs.

Congratulations all!

3 players are still contending for the extra cash and the trophy.

Tyler Brady was the first casualty on this final. He had to take the walk after being hit by a 3-outer on the river. His Ace of Hearts King of Hearts fell to his opponent’s Ace of Clubs 7 of Diamonds after the board came 8 of Clubs Jack of Clubs 8 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts 5 of Hearts. He’s taking home $700 for his nice run.

Joël, who was crippled earlier, took his chaces with the 10 of Spades 9 of Clubs, and was called by Ace of Clubs 8 of Diamonds. The board was no help, and he took $900 for his efforts.

Congratulations both!

Here it is, the final table of Event 2. Play has been somewhat difficult in the final 2 tables, as stacks are quite shallow. The average stack is now 10 big blinds, and if there ever was a time to get a good run of cards in this tournament, it is right now. Chris Annis, moments before the formation of the final doubled up with King of Clubs King of Diamonds against Joël Giguère’s 10 of Diamonds 10 of Spades, and became the new chip leader.

There was quite a few players that put themselves at risk during hand-for-hand play. The most notable was Tyler Brady, who put his remaining 24K(exactly 2 big blinds) in the middle, and was called by 3 players. After all streets were checked, he revealed Ace of Clubs Ace of Hearts, and was quite relieved to see all 3 opponents muck their cards. Adam Hussen also doubled up his micro-stack on Joël Giguère.

Finally, it was Alam Kazi who had to take the walk, the last guy not to make a stop at the tournament desk before leaving the premises.

Players are coming back from their 4th break, and now only 25 of them are dispersed on 3 tables. Derek Lerner, who had a lot of chips 4 levels ago, is now out of the tournament. Michael Aflalo is confortably sitting in the driver seat, with 415K. Confortably? Maybe not, because there are at least 3 players at his table that can really hurt him.

Also, the bubble is around the corner, as players will play hand-for-hand only one elimination from now. We will keep a close eye on that.

The field in the $200 + $20 Freeze is now down to 43 players, and 8 of them have over twice the average. As 21 places are paid tonight, it is natural, although not advised, to start thinking about the possibility of a payday. Derek Lerner, a well known and well experienced local player, is second in chips. The lead belongs to Albert N, sporting the perfect poker player gear, glasses and headphones. As for the rest of the players, they all have a chance to catch the leaders as the average is now at around 14 big blinds. We will bring you glimpses of the action as the field shrinks some more.

Stay tuned for deep action coverage!
