Event 5 Champion: Lukas Soucek

2016/11/10 - 0:29 by Playground Poker

Event 5 was a 2-day $1,000 + $100 NL Hold’em Deepstack tournament part of the Playground Poker Fall Classic. A total of 243 players registered for the event, which resulted in a $235,710.00 prize-pool and a $54,630.00 top prize.

37 players bagged chips after 15 levels of play in Day 1, and they returned for Day 2 to crown a champion. With 31 places scheduled to be paid, the money bubble was reached fairly quickly. It then took 6 more levels to reach the final table of 10 players, at which point the field was virtually divided in two: 4 players were up above 1 million in chips, while the other 6 were below 400K. Lukas Soucek was the leader at the time, and although he gave it up to Pirooz Bayat not long after, he regained the top spot atop the leaderboard after winning a huge flip versus Christopher Willis Jackson in 6-handed action.

Once play reached heads-up, it was Lukas (3,635,000) versus Christopher (2,440,000). The clock was paused and the two negotiated a deal, agreeing to leave the required percentage for the eventual winner and to do an ICM chop for the remaining funds. Lukas locked in $45,000 while Christopher secured $41,000, and they played out for the remaining $6,060 and the Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Trophy.

Heads-up lasted for the better part of 4 levels, during which we saw both players take the strangle-hold lead at some point. After much back and forth it was finally Lukas who managed to take a 3-to-1 chip lead when the final hand took place. With only 10 big blinds left, Christopher open-shoved from the small blind with 10 of Clubs 7 of Clubs and Lukas made the quick call with Ace of Clubs Queen of Spades. The 4 of Clubs 6 of Clubs 7 of Hearts flop was huge for Christopher, as he made top pair with a flush draw, but the Ace of Spades turn flipped the odds in Lukas’ favour, and the river 5 of Spades brought no change.

With that hand, Lukas claimed the title of Event 5 champion, taking home a cool $51,600 cash prize, as well as the Champion’s Trophy and an entry to the champion’s freeroll for next series.

Congratulations!

Event 5, the $1000 + $100 Deepstack, has just reached heads-up play between Lukas Soucek and Christopher Willis Jackson.

Once Daniel Mason was eliminated in 3rd place, the two finalists decided to look at the ICM chop numbers and came to an agreement. Lukas and his 3,635,000 stack locked-in $45,000, while Christopher and his 2,440,000 stack secured $41,000. As required by the tournament, an additional $6,060 is left for the eventual tournament winner, who will also take home a Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Trophy.

The money is now on the table as the two players have resumed action for the title.

Congratulations!

With a short break at hand, we counted the stacks of the final 3 players in the $1000 + $100 Deepstack Event. Lukas Soucek leads the way with more than half the chips in play, but in shorthanded action the balance can easily be shifted in one quick hand.

Frederic Pierre was trying to take advantage of an unopened pot to steal some very valuable blinds when he shipped his 445K stack from the button. He got Daniel to fold his small blind, but Christopher Willis Jackson picked up a hand worthy of a call from the big blind.

Frederic: Queen of Hearts 6 of Hearts
Christopher: King of Diamonds Queen of Spades

Board: Jack of Diamonds Ace of Clubs Jack of Clubs 3 of Clubs 4 of Clubs

With the elimination of Frederic in 4th place, action is now 3-handed. A break is just around the corner, at which point we will bring a update on chip counts.

Lakeram Persaud has somehow managed to score a few pay-jumps with his short stack. He arrived at the final table with a handful of blinds and never managed to cross the 10bb mark, even dropping down to 3bb at one point.

With 375K left he pulled the trigger from middle position and found action from big stacked Lukas Soucek.

Lukas: King of Diamonds Jack of Spades

Fresh from a big double up, Lukas Soucek was on the button holding a small pair and opted for the open-shove. Frederic Pierre got out of the way, but Pirooz Bayat was going nowhere with the hand he was dealt in the big blind, and made a quick call with his 1.4 million chip stack.

Lukas: 6 of Spades 6 of Clubs
Pirooz: Ace of Clubs King of Spades

Board: 3 of Diamonds 3 of Hearts 2 of Clubs 10 of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Lukas won the massive flip to take a commanding lead deep in Even 5, while Pirooz saw his chip-lead stack vanish in just two hands, first with pocket rockets and now with big slick.

Lukas Soucek opened to 110K from utg, and was 3bet to 380K by Christopher Willis Jackson from the small blind. Lukas came over the top with an all-in worth 850K, and Christopher made the call.

Lukas: Ace of Hearts King of Spades
Christopher: 10 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds

Board: 5 of Diamonds Ace of Clubs 7 of Spades 7 of Clubs Queen of Spades

Lukas paired his ace to win the 1.7 million chip pot, putting him in the lead. Christopher holds around 800K after the hand.

Christopher Willis Jackson raised to 85K from utg+1, and Pirooz Bayat 3bet to 205K from the big blind. Christopher made the call, and they went heads-up to the flop.

With 2 of Spades 8 of Clubs Queen of Clubs showing, Pirooz check-called a bet of 190K. They both checked the 8 of Diamonds turn, and Pirooz then lead out for 240K on the 4 of Clubs river. Christopher waited a moment before announcing all-in for 595K total, and Pirooz went into the tank. After a few minutes, the clock was called, and in the last few seconds available Pirooz hesitantly threw in a calling chip.

Christopher tabled 9 of Clubs 10 of Clubs for a flush, and Pirooz showed Ace of Diamonds Ace of Hearts before mucking his hand. Pirooz dropped to 1.5 million in chips, while Christopher collected the 2-million chip pot.

On the next hand, Christopher saw 415K of his newly acquired chips get shipped over to his neighbour Daniel Mason, as he called his 3bet shove and lost with Ace of Hearts 9 of Hearts versus the 5 of Hearts 5 of Diamonds of Daniel.

7th place: Alexander Matveev

When play was 9-handed, Alexander Matveev saw his stack drop to just 3bb. Sitting in the big blind, he found a fold when faced with a shove from Khaly Dang and a flat call by Pirooz Bayat. He enjoyed a pay-jump as Khaly was eliminated in the hand, and then found back-to-back double ups in the two next hands.

He hung around a while longer, and saw the field drop by another player before he finally found another hand to push with. From under the gun +1 he moved in for 120K and went heads-up with Pirooz, who made the call from the button.

Alexander: 9 of Spades 9 of Diamonds
Pirooz: Queen of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds

Pirooz rivered a flush on the 3 of Spades 7 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds board, ending Alexander’s run in 7th place. He now sits on a stack worth 2.5 million, and is the only player above the 1-million chip average. Lukas Soucek and Frederic Pierre sit at around 900K each.

7th place: Alexander Matveev – $8,010.00
