Our PL 5-Card Omaha Champion: Dan Vigderhous

2016/11/16 - 4:29 by Jôle Simard

Event 13 of the Playground Poker Fall Classic was a great success, as 77 players showed up for this fun action-inducing format. 15 of those players re-entered, which made our total of 92 entries, allowing for a very nice prize pool. There were a lot of familiar faces in the field, mostly players who play PLO on the cash side on a regular basis, and also some PLO loving visitors, who were delighted by this format.

The first half of the final table casualties happened in a flash, while the last 4 players standing got do dabble for much longer. In the end, Andy Huynh, who managed to survive under the radar the whole way, was facing Dan Vigderhous, who had just eliminated the other big stack. Andy was sitting on no more than 8 big blinds, so it only took a couple of hands for both to throw the dice and go see a full board together.

Dan Vigderhous: Queen of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds 3 of Diamonds King of Spades King of Clubs
Andy Huynh: 9 of Hearts Ace of Hearts 3 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 6 of Clubs

The Queen of Spades 2 of Hearts 7 of Hearts Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs board was in Dan’s favor, completing a full house for him. For his second place, Andy wins $4,700.00, while our Champion wins the awesome Champion’s Trophy, along with $5,212.00, his first prize money.

Congratulations!

Event 12 Champion: Mohamad Tareg

2016/11/16 - 2:09 by Playground Poker

Event 12 in the Playground Poker Fall Classic was the increasingly popular 50/50 Bounty Event priced at $500 + $100 + $500, where a $500 bounty chip was awarded every time a player was eliminated. A total of 205 players turned out for this one-day event, and after nearly 15 hours of poker, only one man was left standing – Mohamad Tareg.

Mohamad build himself a big stack early in the game, and managed to maintain a top stack through until the very end of the tournament. With already 9 bounty chips to his name at the start of the final table, Mohamad went on to eliminate 7 of his 9 final table adversaries to finish with an massive 17 bounty chips, totalling $8,500 in additional prizes.

When heads-up play began versus Richard Edwin Mask, Mohamad held a 5-to-1 chip lead and began leaning on his opponent. After several orbits, he opened his button to 90K, and called off the 500K all-in of Richard. He tabled Ace of Diamonds 5 of Hearts, and although he was trailing the Queen of Spades Queen of Clubs of Richard, he seemed very confident he was going to win the hand. “The ace always comes” he added, as the dealer started pulling out the community cards. The 9 of Clubs King of Spades 5 of Clubs flop helped him a little, pairing his 5, but the King of Clubs turn removed one of his outs. Surely enough, as if it was written in the sky, the dealer peeled the Ace of Hearts on the river, sealing the victory for Mohamad.

With no deals made on the final table, he collected the $24,450 top cash prize, and with his 17 bounty chips his final score was of $32,950. He was awarded a sweet Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Trophy for his first place finish.

Congratulations!

Event 12 Champion: Mohamad Tareg – $24,450.00 + $8,500.00 (17 bounties)

Event 11 Champion: Placide Junior Sanon

2016/11/15 - 5:47 by Playground Poker

Event 11 in the Playground Poker Fall Classic was a $300 + $30 NL Hold’em 8-Max tournament that saw an astounding 259 players show up. A number of local and international pros and recreational players took to the felts in this tournament which, although moderately priced, awarded a cool $16,000 top prize.

There was no lack of action in the early and mid stages of the night, and we saw chips leaders go from hero to zero, or short stacks rise to the top in a matter of minutes. Once play arrived at the final table, the large pay-jumps seemed to have affected the game of the finalists, as every hand was meticulously played out and every option was deliberated on. It took several long levels for play to go from 9 to 6 players, and then in less than 20 minutes we saw the field drop from 6 to 1.

Martin Nadeau arrived at the final table as the big chip leader, but before long Placide Junior Sanon caught up and eventually took over as top stack. The two maintained their 7-figure stack while the rest of the players slowly got blinded out. Once play entered level 26, where the blinds were 80K/160K/a20K, the short stacks had no more room to work with and we started seeing a lot more all-ins followed by eliminations.

Event 5 champion Lukas Soucek was the first in the series of eliminations, and he was quickly followed by Gerald Leblanc, Han Qin and finally Alexander Matveev – leaving Placide and Martin heads-up. Although Placide started with a 2-to-1 chip lead, the two players (who apparently predicted that they would end up heads-up against one another when the field still had 10+ tables left) decided to do an even chop and play for the required $1,500 extra. They both therefore locked in $13,232.00 and went on to battle it out for the title.

Heads-up took all of one hand, as after an open from Martin in the small blind, all the chips went into the middle on the flop. With Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts 5 of Hearts showing, Placide tabled 5 of Clubs 7 of Hearts and was up against Ace of Diamonds 9 of Clubs. Placide caught a second pair on the 7 of Diamonds turn, and then improved to a flush on the King of Hearts river to secure the victory, the additional payout that accompanied it, and a unique commemorative piece that every winner gets to take home during the Playground Poker Fall Classic – the Champion’s Trophy.

Congratulations!

The seniors’ end on a triple all-in, Bob T is crowned Champion

2016/11/14 - 5:53 by Jôle Simard

After 9 hours of play, the seniors’ tournament’s final hand saw 3 players all-in. All 3 remaining players had money added to their ICM prize. Bob T orchestrated the whole deal, explaining to less experienced players the pros and cons of the different types of deals. He then went on to accumulate a lot of chips, first doubling against Shelley Rapp, then taking Salvador Villaluz out. He also picked up some very important blinds throughout late play. In the end, he was all-in with King of Diamonds Jack of Spades against Wayne Campbell’s Ace of Spades 10 of Diamonds and Gail Seagris’ 10 of Hearts 4 of Spades.

The board came Queen of Clubs Jack of Hearts Queen of Spades 6 of Hearts 5 of Hearts, and Bob’s flopped pair held to the end, allowing him to add $800.00 to his own ICM prize, and to take the coveted Champion’s Trophy for himself.

Gail Seagris had the least chips at the start of the last hand, so she takes 3rd place. Her total prize is $5,210.00. Wayne Campbell, who’s Ace of Spades 10 of Diamonds was ahead and had almost as many chips as Bob at the start of the hand, had to settle for 2nd place. He takes $3,570.00, counting his extra $420.00.

As for Bob T, he adds $800.00 to his previously secured $3,290.00, and goes home with $4,090.00.

Well done Bob, you can add this Trophy to your collection!

Runner-up: Wayne Campbell – $3,570.00
