Samuel Louis Gagnon is still the biggest stack, although the gap between him and the rest of the field has narrowed a little. Martin Raus is down to just 4 big blinds, and the first few hands back from the break will be make-it or break-it for him.

The next player eliminated today is Dakota Vandine, who shoved from the hijack for his last 185,000 only to face a reshove to isolate from Stuart Taylor. Everyone else got out of the way and the hands were turned over.

Vandine: Ace of Diamonds 5 of Hearts
Taylor: Ace of Clubs Queen of Hearts

Community cards: Ace of Hearts King of Hearts 9 of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 7 of Diamonds – Taylor’s two-pair is good, giving him much-needed chips while sending Vandine out of the tournament.

16th place: Dakota Vandine, $22,230.00

Day 3 of the WPT Montreal is in the books, and 17 players have bagged chips onto tomorrow’s Day 4. Samuel Louis Gagnon propelled himself into the chip lead in the last level of play, after winning a 3-way all-in for roughly 1.5 million, and then doubling that count by flopping a set versus the top-pair top-kicker of Robert Earl McGhee. He ended the day with 3,350,000 in chips, which tops second in chips Terry Leon Schumacher by over 1.2 million.

Moments before the end of Day 3, Ivan Fazal Karim was eliminated in 18th place, having blinded down to just 1 big blind. He actually rivered a set on his final hand, but that same river card gave his opponent a straight to knock him out.

A few familiar faces are still in the running, including but not limited to Martin Raus, Mike Sexton, Jake Schwartz, Alexander Keating and Benny Chen.

Day 4 tomorrow will play down until the official televised final table of 6 players has been reached, and the winner will be crowned on Day 5, in front of the WPT camera crew and a live audience. Anyone wishing to rail the final table is more than welcome to do so – simply turn up anytime during the final table of the WPT Montreal and grab a seat, and help yourself to a drink to go along with the show!

Here are the full player-reported chip counts for Day 4. Play will resume with the same seating assignments as at the close of Day 3.

Kevin MacDonald check-shoved on a 6 of Spades 7 of Clubs 8 of Clubs board after Benny Chen bet in position, and found a call from his opponent. Kevin tabled Ace of Hearts 8 of Diamonds for top pair, but Benny showed down a pair of 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds, and with running King of Clubs King of Hearts as the turn and river, Kevin was eliminated in 20th place.

Moments later Theodore Doukas’ WPT Montreal came to a close in 19th place, bringing on a redraw for the final 18 players. Here are the new seating assignments for the final 20 minutes of play in Day 3.

When we arrived at the table, there were already a lot of chips in the pot and the board read 6 of Hearts King of Hearts 10 of Spades 7 of Diamonds. Robert Earl McGhee bet 400K on that turn, and Samuel Louis Gagnon was in the tank. After a while, he muttered: “all-in” from behind his scarf, and that sent McGhee to the tank. The all-in was about 700K more, quite a substantial raise. McGhee finally made the call, and grinned when he saw Gagnon’s flopped set, as he was drawing dead.

Samuel Louis Gagnon: 6 of Clubs 6 of Spades
Robert Earl McGhee: Ace of Clubs King of Diamonds

Gagnon has just finishing stacking his pot, and as there was about 3.5M chips in it, the pot puts him in the driver’s seat.

Ryan D’Angelo moved all-in for 243K from the hijack position, and Samuel Louis Gagnon asked for a count. Once the chips were cut out, he isolated by raising all-in himself for 600K. Jason Mann was on the button and seemed to have a decision, but after some deliberation he ended up mucking his hand. Ivan Fazal Karim mucked his small blind, and Feizal Satchu joined in the action with a call from the big blind.

Ryan: Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts
Samuel: King of Diamonds Queen of Spades
Feizal: Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts

Board: 3 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds 7 of Spades King of Spades 9 of Hearts

Samuel found some magic on the turn to win the pot of nearly 1.5 million chips, while Ryan was sent to the tournament desk to collect his payout for 22nd place. Feizal was crippled in the hand, and lost the remainder of his stack shortly after.

Mike Sexton was sitting on 258K when this somewhat controversial hand happened. Ilan Charlot Boujenah opened the pot to 55K from the under-the-gun position. Sexton went ahead and pushed his stack forward, 258K high. When everybody folded back to Boujenah, he moved his cards forward, and then realized the all-in stack was much smaller than he thought, so he put his hand back on the cards, which were still very close to him, untouched by the dealer.

When the floor arrived to the table, the situation was explained to him, and they started trying to re-enact the movement to figure out whether it was substantial enough to rule it as a fold. It was finally decided that Boujenah would be allowed to play the hand, his cards being easily retrievable and the forward movement having been too subtle. Boujenah called. The whole time, Mike Sexton – always the gentleman – remained unperturbed. When the floor explained the ruling to him, he waived and assured him that he had no problem with it.

Mike Sexton: Ace of Clubs King of Hearts
Ilan Charlot Boujenah: King of Clubs Jack of Hearts

The board came 2 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts 8 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 4 of Clubs. Sexton doubles up to about 600K.

With a stack a hair above 10 big blinds, Stuart Taylor open-shoved from the hijack in an unopened pot. Justin Liberto made the call with a shorter stack from the button, and the two faced-off heads-up.

Stuart tabled King of Hearts Queen of Hearts and was trailing the Ace of Spades Queen of Clubs of Justin. The flop 4 of Spades Jack of Hearts 3 of Diamonds brought little hope to Stuart, but the 10 of Hearts on the turn gave him a world of possibilities, picking up a straight-flush draw. He made a flush on the 8 of Hearts river and eliminated Justin in the process, who collected $15,470 for his 23rd place finish.
