Day 2 wraps up with 50 players left

2016/11/14 - 23:17 by Jôle Simard

After 9 levels of grueling poker, players have finally bagged their assets. The field is now down to 50 players, and they will all return tomorrow at 12pm for Day 3. Michael Philippe Gathy finished the day with 860K, which is the leading stack into Day 3. He is followed very closely by Ema Zajmovic, who managed to skyrocket into the leaders’ circle in the last few moments, with aces as a propeller.

The full counts for Day 3 qualifiers will be published here shortly, but here is a look at the largest stacks:

All tables had finished their hand, and the room was waiting on table 67. Akshay Sutar had shoved his remaining 57K, and action was on Lefrançois, who had been in the tank for a short while, sitting on 61K himself. Lefrançois finally made the call, and the cards were exposed.

Pascal Lefrançois: Ace of Diamonds King of Spades
Akshay Sutar: Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts

The board was revealed: 3 of Clubs Ace of Hearts 4 of Clubs 8 of Clubs 3 of Spades. The bubble had burst, and the remaining players are now in the money, all guaranteed $6,100.00.

Congratulations everyone!

Ema Zajmovic opened to 13K from under the gun, and Andy Frankenberger 3bet to 30K from middle position. The rest of the players got out of the way, and Ema moved into the tank for a quick minute. She then announced a raise to 68K, having started the hand with roughly 300K. It was now Andy’s turn to think about the situation – and after a moment of silence he finally let go of his hand.

Ema smiled over at her opponent and flashed the 3 of Spades, sparking some chatter from her table-mates.

Hand-for-hand continues…

Mike Sexton
Mike Sexton

When we got to Mike Sexton’s table, he was in a dire situation on the turn, part of a 3-way all-in. He was holding 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades, and was facing Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs and Ace of Diamonds King of Diamonds, with the community cards showing 2 diamonds. Only the 9 of Hearts could help him, as the 9 of Diamonds would complete his opponent’s flush draw. Sure enough, the desired card appeared on the river, and Mike chanted: ”One-outer! Still alive!”.

Alive and well, as his triple-up brought him to average. Nice hit!
