Play will continue for 9 levels today. There will be 15 minute breaks following level 12 and 14, following which players will play one level and then be provided with a 45-minute long dinner break. After dinner, play will continue for 4 more levels with a break in the middle.

There are 274 players remaining in the partypoker.net WPT Montreal and today they will move from a “qualify for tomorrow” mindset to a “accumulate and win” mindset. Just 81 places will pay in the tournament, so there’s a long way to go before we start thinking about getting into the money – nevertheless, as the next milestone in the event, it will at least be in the back of players’ heads from relatively early on today.

e9-4790-2

The chip leader to start the day is Montreal’s own WPT Champion’s Club member Eric Afriat, who is seeking to overturn a history of questionable luck here at his “home” poker room. Immediately behind him at the top of the leaderboard are a handful of extremely talented players, and a few of these have enjoyed particular success here at Playground in the past. Richard Mask, Senthuran Vijayaratnam, and Ryan Rivers are among a large group of players in the field that have had big results here in the past.

In addition, there are a ton of other very successful poker players left in the field and starting with decent stacks. Brian Hastings, Michael Dentale, Jeff Gross, Matt Salsberg, and Garrett Greer are just the tip of the iceberg in this respect. And you can never count out well-known local players like Chris McClung, Ami Alibay, or Francois Billard…

Action gets underway in just over 15 minutes – good luck to everyone for the restart of the WPT Montreal 2016!

2016/11/14 - 0:21 by

The three starting days in the partypoker.net WPT Montreal have come to a close and on a total of 648 entries, 274 players have qualified for Day 2. The tournament will resume at 12:00pm on November 14th. Below is the official seating chart for the Day 2 restart along with player-provided chip counts.

This was a next-day re-entry event that allowed players to play multiple starting flights. If a player qualified through more than one flight, only his or her best stack would move forward to Day 2. In this tournament, no players qualified more than once, so no “small stacks” have been removed from the tournament.

The restart will begin with level 11 and the blind levels will continue to be 60 minutes in length. Day 2 will play 9-handed and continue through 9 levels of play.

We arrived at the table and with 8 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 9 of Clubs showing, David George Cowling fired a 2.5K bet that was called by Brian Hastings in a heads-up pot. When the river brought the 10 of Hearts, David checked over to Brian, who eventually slid forward his stack of blue T5K chips, betting more than David’s worth. David made the quick call and tabled 9 of Diamonds 9 of Spades, only to find out his quads were second best to the straight flush of Brian, who tabled Queen of Hearts Jack of Hearts.

David was eliminated in the hand, while Brian climbed up to around 80K with that pot.

Brian posted the hand on his Instagram – here is the link.

Players Party tonight at The Rail

2016/11/13 - 19:39 by

Playground Poker Club is hosting a WPT Players Party tonight in The Rail Coal Fire Bistro, right here in the Playground Poker Complex.

Whether you survived to Day 2 or not, WPT players are invited to unwind at the end of Day 1C with refreshments, drinks, and music. The party starts at 10:00pm, and will continue late so players who survive Day 1C will have plenty of time to join the festivities.

Players will need to pick up WPT wristbands from one of the Royal Flush Crew to access the open bar, while food and top-shelf liquor will be available for purchase.

Have a great night!
