Welcome to Day 1c

2016/11/13 - 10:46 by

In just minutes, Day 1c of the 2016 partypoker.net WPT Montreal will start begin here at Playground Poker Club. This is the final starting flight in the event, meaning that it’s everyone’s last opportunity to try and qualify for Day 2 in the WPT.

So far, 135 players have qualified from a total of 348 total entries to date. History suggests, however, that Day 1c will be much larger than the other two starting days – and it’s possible that there will be as many entries today as in both starting flights so far.

Play today will continue for 10 levels of 60 minutes each, with breaks following every 2nd level. The break following level 6 will be a 45-minute long dinner break with a buffet provided to all players. The end of the dinner break will also signal the end of late registration, following which we’ll have an official count of the total entires in the event and, not long following, we’ll publish the prize pool and payout structures.

All of that is hours in the future! For now, players are lining up at the cashier to purchase their seating tickets and in a few minutes they’ll be admitted to the Tournament Hall for the introductory announcements and the beginning of play.

Good Luck!

WPT Montreal Day 1b results

2016/11/13 - 0:02 by

After 10 levels of play, Day 1b in the partypoker.net WPT Montreal has ended. There were 213 entries in this 2nd of three starting flights, and when play stopped for the night there were 88 players remaining, all of whom have qualified for Day 2.

Any player may choose to enter the event on Day 1c. In the event that a player qualifies for Day 2 twice, the smaller of their two finishing stacks will be removed from play and the player will begin Day 2 with only their largest finishing stack from a Day 1.

The following table lists the player-generated chip counts following the end of level 10 tonight. All of these chips have been sealed in bags to return to play on Day 2, which will begin on Monday November 14th at 12:00pm.

Quang & Dentale in the lead in Day 1b of the WPT Montreal

2016/11/12 - 22:59 by Playground Poker

The 2nd flight to the WPT Montreal has just been completed, and of the 213 runners that started the day, David Quang (196,100) was the chip leader at the end of play. Michael Dentale (187,300) bagged second in chips. Dentale and Quang both chipped up early in the flight, and alternated in top spot throughout the night.

Third and fourth in chips are Manig Loeser (182,700) and Senthuran Vijayaratnam (182,100), who were neighbours for the last few levels of play and ended up bagging within 1K of each other. Matt Salsberg sprung up the leaderboard near the end of the day and bagged a healthy 5th place stack – he will return with 174,400 for Day 2.

A full list of player-reported chip counts from this flight will be made available shortly.

Level 10 has just started in Day 1b of the WPT Montreal, and this will be the last level of play for players in this flight. Not much has changed in the leaderboard in the last level of play – Senthuran Vijayaratnam still holds the top spot, while the other top 6 stacks from last level continue to maintain healthy chip counts.

Anyone who has not made a seat for Day 2 will have one more chance to do so, as Day 1c is on the schedule for tomorrow. Historically speaking, the third flight has always seen the largest turn-out, and with today’s sit n go satellites and nightly satellite, which added over 20 seats into the mix, we can expect a healthy number of registrants.

Casualties in today’s flight include the likes of Alex Keating, Ankush Mandavia, Anthony Zinno, Ari Engel, Darren Elias, Griffin Benger, Mike McDonald, Mike Leah, Sylvain Siebert, Will Faila and Will Molson, amongst many others. Some are likely to fire one last bullet tomorrow.

Once the flight has been completed, we will publish the full list of player-reported chip counts.

Level 8 has just been completed, and players are on a short break as the tournament staff races off the T25 chips. Only 2 more levels remain before the conclusion of Day 1b, and this is therefore the last break of the day.

In the last hand before the break, Senthuran Vijayaratnam took over the chip lead as he eliminated table-opponent Raymond Latinsky. Here are the top stacks as play enters level 9:

Mid-way through level 8, Michael Dentale continues to top the Day 1b field as he nears 180K. Second in chips is still Tam Ho, who now sits on roughly 150K, but a number of players have recently increased their holdings and are rivalling his stack.

There will be a short break following this level, during which we will bring a more detailed update on chip counts.

The dinner break is underway in Day 1b of the partypoker.net WPT Montreal and the players are enjoying a complimentary buffet that has been set out for them – or for those have already eaten, using the 45 minute break for other productive purposes.

During the extended break we got chip counts for the current leaders, who are still led by Michael Dentale. It should be noted that there are a significant number of players that made it in just below the 75K cutoff to make this leaderboard – it’s still anyone’s game.

Charles La Boissonnière is a professional player originally from the Quebec City area, but who now resides in the area and plays frequently here at Playground Poker Club. In the recent World Cup of Cards he had a spectacular run, winning the overall WCC Leaderboard, for which he was awarded a package to the upcoming Caribbean Poker Party in Punta Cana.

La Boissonnière also won one of the weekly leaderboard races, but since the prize for that win was a satellite entry for an event for which he had already won a buy-in, he asked to switch that satellite seat for an equal-value satellite seat for the WPT Montreal. The Leaderboard prize sponsor, partypoker, very generously made the swap… and then he won the online satellite… and that’s the seat he’s playing today!

Update: As we were writing this post, La Boissonnière busted from the tournament, so the journey has come to an end…

Day 1b of the WPT Montreal is off a short break following level 4, and Michael Dentale has taken the early lead in this flight. He is the only player to have breached the 6-figures so far, as he returns to level 5 with 116,500 in chips. He is followed by a handful of players who near the 100K mark, including Matt Salsberg and Ryan Rivers. Below are the top stacks at this the second break of the day.

So far this flight is up to 202 runners, and late registration is still open until the end of the dinner break, which will begin after level 6.

Recent registrations include Caitlin Hall, Aaron Mermelstein, Alexander Keating and Samuel Bisrat Tsehai, while the list of eliminations for this flight now include Ari Engel and Lu Zhang.
