There are 274 players remaining in the partypoker.net WPT Montreal and today they will move from a “qualify for tomorrow” mindset to a “accumulate and win” mindset. Just 81 places will pay in the tournament, so there’s a long way to go before we start thinking about getting into the money – nevertheless, as the next milestone in the event, it will at least be in the back of players’ heads from relatively early on today.
The chip leader to start the day is Montreal’s own WPT Champion’s Club member Eric Afriat, who is seeking to overturn a history of questionable luck here at his “home” poker room. Immediately behind him at the top of the leaderboard are a handful of extremely talented players, and a few of these have enjoyed particular success here at Playground in the past. Richard Mask, Senthuran Vijayaratnam, and Ryan Rivers are among a large group of players in the field that have had big results here in the past.
In addition, there are a ton of other very successful poker players left in the field and starting with decent stacks. Brian Hastings, Michael Dentale, Jeff Gross, Matt Salsberg, and Garrett Greer are just the tip of the iceberg in this respect. And you can never count out well-known local players like Chris McClung, Ami Alibay, or Francois Billard…
Action gets underway in just over 15 minutes – good luck to everyone for the restart of the WPT Montreal 2016!
