David Peters has taken another hit on this final table, this time in a hand against Maxime Heroux.

Maxime raised to 185K to open the action and David called from the bb. The flop was dealt King of Hearts King of Clubs 9 of Diamonds. David check-called Maxime’s bet of 115K. The turn Ace of Clubs sees another check-call from David, this time on a 230K bet. The river was the 2 of Hearts, and Maxime chose to shove, getting the fold from David.

David Peters is now down to 8bb and I’m sure he’s wondering if his fortunes are going to change – and soon. They’ll have to if he has any hope of going deeper in the event.

David Peters has been a little horse-bitten so far on this final table. Just 4 hands after Eric doubled through David, Derek Wolters has also doubled through David, leaving him with less than half of the stack he was playing to begin the day.

You can read the hand courtesy of WPT Live Updates. Spoiler alert – they are reporting live off the floor! This Playground Events Blog is reporting following the 30 minute delay.

David Peters has been extremely active so far on the final table, opening a lot of pots and using his stack to put pressure on the smaller stacks to his left. In this hand, he raised from the button to 180K (2.25bb) but found a shove from Eric Afriat in the sb. Maxime folded his bb and action was back on David. With the Action Clock in effect, he didn’t want to take too much time, and he made the call.

David: 8 of Hearts 7 of Clubs
Eric Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs

The 6 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs 3 of Clubs flop was great for David – he improved to an open-ended straight draw – but the runout came brick-brick 10 of Diamonds 3 of Spades and the Aces held.

Brendan pushes Eric off

Brendan Baksh and Eric Afriat are both starting the day relatively short-stacked, and Brendan just won a modest pot by shoving over the top of Eric’s opening raise. Eric correctly let his Ace of Hearts 8 of Hearts go and Brendan scooped a small pot. Because the PokerGO coverage is cards-up, we know that Brendan was playing Ace of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds.

The preliminaries and preparations are finally over – it’s time for Day 5 of the 6th WPT Montreal – the Final Table. The players have been introduced, WPT Hosts Vince Van Patten and Tony Dunst have made their introductory remarks and now there’s nothing left to do but the most important part: to play down to a winner!

Cards are now in the air, and in 30 minutes you can watch the live stream of the event on PokerGo!

Here are a few short notes we made about each player including their starting big blinds in play today:

  • Eric Afriat (18bb)
Eric is a very successful local player who is a member of the WPT Champion’s Club, having won the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown in Hollywood, Florida in 2014. He has had a lot of other success as well, including a win and another final table in Bellagio Cup events in Las Vegas in 2012 and a WPT Final Table appearance at Bellagio in 2010. Eric has had success here on his home turf, but he has yet to win a big one – a fact he’ll want to change asap!
  • Maxime Heroux (90bb)
Maxime is a local player that doesn’t have a ton of published live results but has demonstrated a high level of skill over the years in events here at Playground Poker Club.
  • Derek Wolters (19bb)
Derek is an experienced professional player with published live results going back to 2010. He’s still looking for a big championship score.
  • Brendan Baksh (16bb)
Brendan hails from California and while he hasn’t had a huge live score, he is an experienced player with published results from events in Las Vegas and LA.
  • Patrick Quinn (107bb)
Patrick comes from Toronto and has published results from events in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and Florida.
  • David Peters (56bb)
David is one of the most superbly experienced players on the world poker scene today. With 6-figure scores dating back to 2008 and over $18M in lifetime earnings, Peters’ resume needs little burnishing – but a WPT Championship would certainly add to his renown.

The official 6-handed final table of the WPT Montreal is now set, and the finalists have bagged and tagged their chips onto tomorrow’s grand finale, where we find out is the next WPT Champion is! Along with the poker fame comes a spot on the WPT Champion’s Trophy, a Playground Poker Fall Classic Champion’s Belt, a US$15,000 seat to the WPT Tournament of Champions, and of course a massive $384,150 payout. All players have assured themselves of at least $78,050 for their final table appearance, with the top 4 looking at a 6-figure payday.

Patrick Quinn returns with the chip lead after bagging 6,415,000 through 4 days on the felts. Maxime Heroux also bagged heavy and will see an armory of 5,345,000 waiting for him tomorrow. After falling quite short near the end of Day 4, David Peters sprung up the leaderboard with a double-up follow by a knockout, and closed his day with 3,345,000. The three other finalists, Derek Wolters, Eric Afriat and Brendan Baksh, all hang around the 1-million chip mark and will certainly be eyeing each other closely as the final table kicks off.
