    Last break of the night

    Dario Musto

    Dario Musto

Play has reached the last break of the night here in Day 1b of the $100K Guarantee, and 57 players are still in the running and trying to lock in a spot for Day 2. Three more 30-minutes levels remain before time runs out in this second of four flights, after which remaining players will bag their chips onto Day 2.

In recent levels, Dario Musto stepped on the gas and took over the chip lead in this Day 1b, and his impressive 265,900 stack nearly doubles any other player in the field.

Here is a look at the leaderboard, as play enters level 12:

    JasonConforti116,200
    SebastienFortier115,500
    DanielBisonnette105,200

Shortly after the completion of the final level, we will publish the full list of player-reported chip counts from both Day 1a and Day 1b.

As a reminder, two more flights remain to this event, both held on Friday, with Day 1c starting at 11am, and Day 1d at 7pm. Day 2 will begin on Saturday at 1pm.

4 players have separated themselves from the field so far after 8 levels of play, with Walter Asatoorian in the driver seat. These players, which have been listed in the table below, are the only ones to have crossed the 6-figure mark, while the rest of the field falls below the 80,000 chip mark.

Play will continue for 6 more levels before the surviving players bag and tag their chips onto Day 2. Anyone unfortunate enough to be eliminated before the end of the night will have two more chances at securing a spot in Day 2, with two more flights scheduled tomorrow, Friday the 11th of March (at 11am and at 7pm).

Here are the top 4 stacks as play enters level 9:

The half-way mark of tonight’s Day 1b has just been passed, and players will soon be taking a short chip-up break. During this time we will bring an update on the leaderboard, however it seems that for now Walter Asatoorian is the man to catch, as he has built an impressive 125,000+ stack after 7 levels of play.

196 turn up for Day 1b of the $100K Guarantee

The registration period for Day 1b of the $100K Guarantee has just come to a close, and this second of four flights attracted a total of 196 players, brining our grand total up to 373 after 2 flights.

Jonathan Poulin has had an impressive start to his tournament, as he has managed to turn his 20K starting stack into just over 75K, putting him far and ahead of the field. The rest of the players fall more than 20K behind him at the moment, but the night is still young…

The TonyBet Power Weekend continues tonight with day 1b of the $100K Guaranteed, and level 1 has kicked off moments ago. So far 78 players have taken their seats, and late registration will remain open until the end of the first break, or roughly 9:10pm.

Day 1a attracted 177 runners, of which 32 bagged some chips for Day 2. Two more flights are scheduled for tomorrow, with Day 1c starting at 11am and Day 1d at 7pm. As this event follows a “next day re-entry” formula, players can register for multiple starting flights, however in the event that a player qualifies for Day 2 more than once, only their largest stack will be kept in play.

Cards are now in the air, but players still have a little over two hours to come down to Playground Poker Club and join in the action.

    See you on the felts!

And the Mix Max is over

And the Mix Max is over

In the major events hosted at Playground Poker Club there is usually a trophy for the champion and a requirement for players to play down to an eventual champion, even if they do deals along the way to re-distribute the prize pool. Such rules are not in place for this event, and the first evidence of this is that the Mix Max tournament has concluded with a 5-way chip chop.

Play never got going on the final table, as the players came together and made note of the relative stack sizes discussion began immediately. The chip leader at the time, Michel Lemieux, had 407,500 in his stack while the small stack was playing 133,000. But even though they were relatively deep for a one-day tournament (3 players had greater than 30bb stacks), the numbers were compelling and the deal was made.

Here are the details of the chip chop the players agreed to.

It took almost no time after the bubble burst to eliminate the first three players in the money – Tyler Franz, Mario Page, and Alexandre Gelinas were out in 8th to 6th respectively. This leaves 5 players in the tournament, and there has just been a seating redraw. Play will resume 5-handed once everyone has taken their seat.

Jason Mottershead is an enormously experienced tournament player who seems to make deep runs regularly in events here, no matter if the buy-in is $110 or $1,100 or more. Jason spent most of the latter part of today as the chip leader – and at times his lead became relatively extended – he wasn’t quite lapping the field, but it was going very smoothly for him.

Unforunately for him, in the span of just a few minutes Jason has gone from chip leader to the player out on the money bubble. In his ultimate hand, Michel Lemieux raised to 25K from utg/button, Laurent Dubé in seat 2 folded and Jason raised all-in from the bb. Michel snap-tossed a 5K chip to the table by way of calling.

Jason: King of Clubs Queen of Spades
Michel: Ace of Hearts Queen of Clubs

The flop kept Michel well in the lead though it did give Jason some additional outs: Ace of Spades 10 of Hearts 10 of Clubs. The turn 8 of Spades was no help and left Jason with only the 3 remaining Jacks able to save him. The river… the 6 of Spades and Jason left the tournament area.

Everyone else is now in the money and play will continue on 2 tables until 5 players remain.

The action in the Mix Max tourney has continued to move at a breakneck speed, and there are just 9 players remaining on 3 tables.

The final table in the event will be reached when 5 players remain, so there is a little more table-balancing and one more table to close before the final table looms. Meanwhile, the tournament is now on the money bubble. There was an attempt to discuss a bubble save, but one player shut this down immediately (any agreement has to be unanimous) and play continues.
