As often happens in a tournament of this kind, when a particular barrier is reached there seems to be a pivot point for the tourney and the action accelerates – and then some! In this case it was reaching 30 players remaining when play continued with a maximum of 6 players per table – in just 2 levels since then, there have been a bunch of eliminations to the point that there are only 17 players left – just one off from the next cutoff when play will move to 4-way action!

The chip leaders in the tournament at this point are Jason Mottershead and Manfred Gunther, both of whom are playing over 130K stacks, with Marc Antoine Levesque just a little bit back, playing around 120K. Following the leaders are several players with over 90K.

Registration has closed in the Mix Max tournament and when everyone was added there were a total of 66 players in the event. This adds up to a prize pool that will be distributed according to the following table.

In terms of the current tournament action – there are now 49 players remaining in 10-handed play, and play is set to reduce to 8-handed action after just 1 more elimination. Players aren’t re-drawn when the Max players at the table changes – the table capacity goes down naturally as players are eliminated and tournament staff makes sure they balance with the new capacity in mind – but nevertheless, it is the first important inflection point in the event.

The players in the Mix Max tourney have left the tables for their first break of the day. There are a few last-minute players still taking their seats and after the break we’ll have the final number of participants as well as getting the prize pool numbers for the tournament.

The Tournament Director has made some small structure changes to the event. Play will move to 8-handed at the tables when the field is down to 48 players, and subsequently it will move to 6-handed at 30 players and 4-handed at 16 players remaining.

Players have assembled in the Tournament Hall for today’s daytime tournament in the TonyBet Power Weekend – a $100 + $10 NL Hold’em Mix Max tournament. This is quite a popular format, and similar to a Shootout event, it is a particularly good test of players’ abilities in all phases of the game – full ring, shorthanded formats, and eventually heads up poker!

In this version of the Mix Max, play will start with 10 players per table and continue that way until the field has been reduced (after late registration has concluded) to 56 players, when play will continue 8-handed. Later, when there are 30 players left, it will become a 6-Max tournament, and when there are 12 players left play will continue 4-handed. The final table will start with 5 players remaining, and then a winner will emerge once he has won a final heads-up battle at the end of the tourney.

Registration is open until 1:30pm today, and as usual for a daytime tournament, players will continue to join in right until the end of late reg.

    Good luck!

    $100K Gtd Day 1a – final counts

    2016/03/10 - 3:28 by

There were 177 entries in Day 1a of the $100K Guarantee tournament in the TonyBet Power Weekend, and after 14 levels of play, 32 players remained. These players have all qualified for Day 2 of the tournament, scheduled to begin at 1pm on Saturday March 12th.

Any player who entered today’s starting flight in the tournament may re-enter in a subsequent starting flight – this is a “next day re-entry” event, meaning that players enter each of the 4 starting flights once. If a player happens to qualify for Day 2 through 2 separate starting flights, only their best Day 1 result will count.

Note that these are player-recorded chip count totals. The actual chips have been sealed in bags which will be opened by the players to be returned to play on Day 2.

Here are a few photos taken during level 10 of the action in Day 1a. As the final break of the day approaches, players are planning their approach to the end of the day – will they be conservative and preserve the chips accumulated so far, or will aggression be in store? Only time will tell.

Almost half of this starting flight is already complete and a few players have built up a substantial lead on the rest of the field:

    1. Yannick Labattaglia: 102,100 chips
    2. Danny Rouleau: 89,100 chips
    3. Daniel Forfana: 88,200 chips
    4. David Brillon: 75,600 chips
    5. Chafik Chetita: 73,100 chips
    6. Daniel Leduc: 71,000 chips

Of note is that the early chip leader, Daniel Forfana, is still among the leaders – which is itself an accomplishment!
