Daniel Le and Ruben Perceval have been the two most active players so far on this final table of the $100K Gtd. Ruben claimed the first big pot between the two opponents, however in their second big confrontation, it was Daniel who came out on top.

Daniel opened to 210,000 from the hijack position, and called the 3bet of 510,000 by Ruben in the small blind. On a board showing 2 of Clubs King of Spades 10 of Spades, Ruben fired 375,000, but eventually folded when Daniel replied with an all-in worth 1,135,000.

As mentioned earlier, the Tag Team format is notoriously slow paced – so while it’s a ton of fun for the players – and it gets better the deeper you get – it takes a long time to play out. This edition of the tournament is now in level 16 and there are still 48 teams of the 195 that started the event.

With 48 teams in action, the tournament is down to 6 tables (play is 8-handed) and the side-effect of the relatively tight play is that there are a few relatively short stacks still in the event – it would be a great time to be able to pick up some short stacks – and grab those consultation chips to boot!

Shortly after doubling table-opponent Sebastien Fortier for 1,015,000 chips, Ruben has just bounced back up the leaderboard by winning a little over 1 million chips, without even seeing a flop.

Daniel Le opened to 175,000 from middle position, and Ruben replied with a 3bet to 405,000 from the button. The blinds got out of the way, and Daniel announced a raise up to 975,000. Ruben glanced over at the dealer, and quietly announced all-in, forcing Daniel into the tank.

Daniel assessed the situation, and concluded that a fold was his best play at the moment, forfeiting over 1/3 of his chips to a very dangerous opponent. Daniel now holds a little over 1.5 million, while Ruben is just shy of 3 million – putting him slightly behind current chip leader Said Michailidis.

Tonight in the TonyBet Power Weekend there’s a new tournament format on offer: No Limit Pineapple. It’s a $100 + $10 tournament and players start with a 20K stack and blinds go up every 20 minutes.

What is Pineapple? It’s a variant of Texas Hold’em, except that players are dealt 3 hole cards, not 2. Preflop betting occurs exactly like in Hold’em, and once the betting is over – preflop – players must discard one of the 3 hole cards. From there it plays out as a normal Hold’em hand.

Players have 4 levels to register in the tournament (plus the break following the first 4 levels).

The first orbit on the final table of the $100K Gtd has just passed, and action was rather tame to start the night. Philippe Drouin earned himself a decent pot when he called a 3bet preflop with 10 of Diamonds 10 of Hearts and flopped a set, but otherwise most pots were kept fairly small.

On the last hand of this first orbit, Daniel Le min-raised from early position, and was put to a decision when Siamak 3bet all-in for just over 1-million. He finally made the call, and the two were off to the races.

Daniel: Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts
Siamak: Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs

Siamak was unable to find help on a 9 of Spades 8 of Hearts 9 of Clubs 3 of Hearts 2 of Spades board, and turned out to be the first casualty of this final table.

    10th place: Siamak – $1,110.00

All of the players in the Tag Team event have just taken a break as tournament staff removed the black T100 chips and during the break we were able to get a more accurate picture of the current leaders in the tourney.

As is usually the case in this format of tournament, the pace of play is quite slow. Consultation chips are part of the reason for the slower pace, but also the fact that players tend to play quite snugly so as not to seem foolish to their partner!

    Consultations…

One of the most interesting aspects of the Tag Team format is the availability and usage of the consultation chips. Teams have a limited window to consult one another, and a limited number of times they may consult one another – but nevertheless, it’s unique enough to be able to ask someone else what you should consider during a hand.

Some teams are very confident and comfortable with one another’s game, and hardly ever use chips. Others are more unsure of themselves, and would use one all the time if they were allowed. In other cases teams are possibly over-confident, and try and use their consultation chips for gamesmanship or even in some cases to (practically) slowroll an opponent.

Here are a few photos of teams in consultation, plus a few more photos of players in the field as well.

Players in the Tag Team event have now completed their 6 individual levels, following which there was a break while the green T25 chips were removed from play and tournament staff performed the redraw.

Following the break, there were 175 of the 195 teams who began still in the action, and soon after the players took their seats we did a survey of the room to find the early chip leaders.

    1. Team Ravary – 210,000
    2. Team Peloquin – 179,000
    3. Team Belzile – 155,000
    4. Team Lemire – 141,000

There were also several teams with very small remaining stacks, so we expect some quick accumulation and quick eliminations in early post-merge play.
