We are still 6-handed at this final table of Event 6, and it’s not due to a lack of action. It just so happens that whenever a short-stack found himself all-in, he would end up on the winning side of the hand! Currently it is Joey Boczek that leads the field, however with the pressure of the blinds, we could still see some dramatic shifts in the balance of the chips.

Here is the current chip distribution, as play enters level 23.

Luc Fournier spent most of the night in the chip lead, however a little bad luck changed all of that, sending him home in 7th place.

After dropping to average stack, he found a great spot to double-up in a Hold’em round, as his King of Hearts King of Clubs were all-in preflop versus the Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts of Joey Boczek. Unfortunately for him, he lost to a flush on the 5 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 3 of Spades 10 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts board to find himself crippled.

He was all-in a few hands later, this time in an Omaha round, but his 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts Queen of Spades 6 of Spades were outflopped by Jean-Philippe Piquette’s 9 of Hearts 9 of Spades 10 of Diamonds King of Hearts on a board of Jack of Hearts 2 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 7 of Spades 4 of Clubs.

    7th place: Luc Fournier – $500

    Event 5 Champion: Samuel Picard

    2015/08/26 - 3:59 by Playground Poker

    Event 5 Champion: Samuel Picard

Samuel Picard overcame a field of 149 players to take home a Montréal Poker Expo Champion’s trophy, as well as a $980 cash prize!

After a deal was made with the final 8-players, Samuel went an a spree and stacked a few players before finding himself heads-up and huge chip leader over opponent Thibault Tabary. Thibault managed to double-up in the first few hands, however he got caught up in some ugly luck as he called an open-shove from the big blind with the best hand, but ended up second best. His Ace of Diamonds Queen of Hearts lost to Samuel’s Ace of Hearts 7 of Spades as the board ran out 4 of Diamonds 2 of Spades 10 of Clubs 7 of Hearts 8 of Spades.

    Congratulations Samuel!

Action was fast and furious after the deal was reached, and players were launching their chips left and right trying to gamble their way into victory.

Only two are left at the tables, as play is heads-up between Samuel Picard and Thibault Tabary. They are playing for an extra $150 cash, as well as the beautiful Montréal Poker Expo Champion’s Trophy, and of course bragging rights!

It only took one hand on this final table to bring us into the money, as Myriam Campanelli was eliminated by Alex Plourde in the Omaha round.

When play switched to Hold’em, short-stacked Tomas Larivee Magni found himself all-in versus Jean-Philippe Piquette.

Tomas: King of Spades Jack of Clubs
JPP: Ace of Spades 7 of Spades

Board: Ace of Clubs 8 of Spades 2 of Spades King of Hearts Jack of Spades

Tomas caught two-pair on the river, but the very same card gave Jean-Philippe a flush, sending him to the rail in 8th place.

Double elimination to start the final table

After doubling up through Maximilien Haghighat Talab a few moments ago, Serge Huet just won another huge pot on this final table as he knocked out two opponents in one hand.

Maximilien open-shoved his short stack from the button in an unopened pot, and was isolated by Samuel Leblanc from the small blind. Serge made the quick call, and had a stranglehold on the hand.
