28 remain after Day 2
Day 2 of the Main Event in the Montréal Poker Expo has just concluded, and 28 players remain from a starting field of 647. Leading the way is Kevin MacDonald, who bagged a total of 1,377,000 chips. Directly on his tail are Robert Johnson (1,364,000) and Mikael Guenard (1,331,000), while Eric Aucoin (1,102,000) is not too far behind. The rest of the field is below the 1-million mark, however at this stage in the game anything can happen, and big stacks can crumble as easily as short stacks can excel.
In a few moments we will be publishing the full list of player-reported chip counts, as well as the seating charts for tomorrow’s Day 3, which begins at 12pm. There will be a full seating redraw at 27 players, 18 players and for the final table of 10 players.
See you tomorrow!

Good luck to all the players in the field!
Back-to-back for MacDonald
Kevin MacDonald was amongst the shorter stacks in the room a few moments ago, however he has just doubled up twice in the last orbit to climb over the 1 million chip mark.
In the first hand, he pushed all-in for just under 200,000 on a board showing
, and found a call from Azim Popatia. Kevin tabled
, and had a lockdown on the hand as Azim showed
.
Moments later, he found himself in the middle of a betting war on a flop showing
, where he winded up all-in versus opponent Steve Savard. Kevin tabled
for the nut straight, and only had 4 outs to fade to hold the win versus Steve’s
. The running cards were the
and the
, and Kevin succesfully doubled up his stack once again, this time bringing him up over 1 million in chips.
3 millionaires and counting
The players have just returned from their last break of the night, and upon the completion of two more levels, the remaining players will bag their chips onto Day 3 tomorrow. Only 40 players remain at the moment, and Eric Aucoin has taken over the chip lead, sitting on 1,184,000 chips.
Here is a look at the leaderboard as play enters level 20:

Some movements in the money
Since the money bubble has burst, we’ve seen quite a bit of movement in chips. Steve Savard has taken over as the chip leader, as he’s increased his stack up to around 1,200,000. Xin Qi, after winning that huge hand on the bubble, has also chipped up into the 7 figures. Playground Player’s Club Member Jean-Philippe Piquette was eliminated shortly after the bubble, while Chanracy Khun, TJ Ulmer, Mike Leah, along with a handful of other hopefuls, are still grinding away, trying to earn that 6-figure payday.

We are in the money!
Former chip leader Michael M was trying to use the pressure of the bubble to win himself a few extra chips, but his plan backfired as he ended up finishing on the money bubble here in the Main Event of the Montréal Poker Expo.
He opened from early position, and called a 3bet by Xin Qi from the cutoff. The flop came
, and with only about 75,000 in the pot, Michael open-shoved for 310,000, an over-average stack at the time. Xin, who had Michael covered, tanked for a moment, but eventually threw in some calling chips.

Xin only had a few outs to fade to take down this massive pot, and with the running cards bringing the
