Event 6 Champion: Pascal Beaulieu

2015/08/26 - 5:45 by Playground Poker

Event 6 Champion: Pascal Beaulieu

Pascal Beaulieu has just taken down Event 6 of the Montréal Poker Expo, as he bested a field of 75 players to earn himself a cool cash prize of $2,622, as well as a Champion’s Trophy!

He took over the chip lead in heads-up play as his Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts overcame the Queen of Clubs 6 of Clubs of opponent Bill Kontaratos to win a pot worth 80% of the chips in play. His victory came a few hands later, as he moved in with Queen of Clubs 10 of Clubs, and held versus Bill’s Jack of Hearts 10 of Diamonds on a board showing 9 of Clubs Ace of Spades 3 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 10 of Spades.

Congratulations Pascal!

    2015/08/26 - 4:53 by Playground Poker

Event 6 of the Montréal Poker Expo was a $150 + $15 Mixed PL Hold’em & PL Omaha tournament that began on Tuesday August 25th at 8:00pm. There were 75 entries – a strong turnout for a mixed event at Playground Poker Club – which contributed to a prize pool totalling $10,912.00.

Note there was a player deal reached with 3 players remaining. They agreed to reserve $242 and the Champion’s Trophy for the winner and distribute the remaining prize pool according to the relative stacks at the time of the deal (basically an ICM chop). The actual prizes paid are reflected in the payouts below.

With the blinds as big as they are, Jonathan Patrick Marrie had very few options with his 90,000 stack. He pushed from under the gun, and was called by Joey.

Joey: 3 of Spades 3 of Clubs
Jonathan: 6 of Spades 9 of Spades

Joey’s pocket threes held on the King of Diamonds Ace of Hearts 7 of Hearts Jack of Clubs King of Clubs board to bring us down to 5-handed.

We are still 6-handed at this final table of Event 6, and it’s not due to a lack of action. It just so happens that whenever a short-stack found himself all-in, he would end up on the winning side of the hand! Currently it is Joey Boczek that leads the field, however with the pressure of the blinds, we could still see some dramatic shifts in the balance of the chips.

Here is the current chip distribution, as play enters level 23.

Luc Fournier spent most of the night in the chip lead, however a little bad luck changed all of that, sending him home in 7th place.

After dropping to average stack, he found a great spot to double-up in a Hold’em round, as his King of Hearts King of Clubs were all-in preflop versus the Ace of Hearts Jack of Hearts of Joey Boczek. Unfortunately for him, he lost to a flush on the 5 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 3 of Spades 10 of Diamonds 4 of Hearts board to find himself crippled.

He was all-in a few hands later, this time in an Omaha round, but his 10 of Clubs 10 of Hearts Queen of Spades 6 of Spades were outflopped by Jean-Philippe Piquette’s 9 of Hearts 9 of Spades 10 of Diamonds King of Hearts on a board of Jack of Hearts 2 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs 7 of Spades 4 of Clubs.

It only took one hand on this final table to bring us into the money, as Myriam Campanelli was eliminated by Alex Plourde in the Omaha round.

When play switched to Hold’em, short-stacked Tomas Larivee Magni found himself all-in versus Jean-Philippe Piquette.

Tomas: King of Spades Jack of Clubs
JPP: Ace of Spades 7 of Spades

Board: Ace of Clubs 8 of Spades 2 of Spades King of Hearts Jack of Spades

Tomas caught two-pair on the river, but the very same card gave Jean-Philippe a flush, sending him to the rail in 8th place.

    8th place: Tomas Larivee Magni – $370
