    Final Table!

The final table has been established in Event 7 as only 10 players remain. With the final table comes the bubble, as 8 places will pay today, meaning that the first two players to be eliminated from the final table will not cash in the tournament.

The players in Event 7 have just returned from a break during which tournament staff removed the black T100 chips from play. Play continues on just two tables as the pace of play – and the pace of eliminations – has been very speedy today.

The leaderboard at this stage of the tournament has (not surprisingly) changed completely. Shawn Dubeau has a lead, but his lead certainly isn’t 2x the next-largest stack.

    Event 7: Leaderboard and more

Event 7 has now moved into level 9 and there are just 31 players remaining in the tournament. During the break that the players have just completed we were able to put together an initial leaderboard but it is very short, as one player has taken a huge lead, more than double the 2nd and 3rd place stacks at this point. And after 3rd place, stack sizes go down sharply to the average.

    Break in Event 7

The second break of the day is coming up in Event 7 and during the break we’ll prepare some new photos of the field, a table with the full prize pool and payout structures, as well as the first leaderboard of this event.

More players and more to come

The Rebuy tournament is part way through level 4 and there are now 65 players in the action with 10 rebuys so far. 2 players have busted but chosen not to rebuy – or perhaps they have already played their starting stack and rebuy stack… This is one of the interesting elements in this format of tournament – it’s possible for some outsized stacks to grow even during the early going in the tournament.

There are also a few players currently playing cash games who plan on jumping in to the event but prefer to do so at the end of the rebuy period (or even during the upcoming break) to shield themselves from the “exigencies” of the rebuy format. These players’ reasoning is that with rebuys available, players are able to play a little bit of a “wilder” style that they’d prefer not to face.

Here are some photos of the early action today.

Today’s afternoon tournament is Event 7 in the Montréal Poker Expo, a $60 + $10 No Limit Hold’em Single Rebuy tourney! We don’t run a lot of rebuy tournaments at Playground Poker Club, but this format – which permits one rebuy if a player falls to below 3,000 chips within the first 4 levels – has always been popular.

    Good luck!
