Event 12 Champion: Rodney Ramalho

2015/09/02 - 19:03 by Playground Poker

Event 12 Champion: Rodney Ramalho

After deep-running an EPT Main Event last week in Barcelona, Rodney Ramalho returned to Montreal just in time to play in the $500 + $50 Event, part of the Montréal Poker Expo. He stayed under the radar for most of the tournament, until play fell down to 6 players, where a combination of run-good and play-good propelled him into the chip lead.

He entered heads-up play versus opponent Trevor Delaney with roughly a 3-to-1 chip advantage, and never looked back. On the last hand of play, Trevor opened his button to 105,000, to which Rodney replied with a 3bet to 275,000. Trevor quickly moved all-in for just over 1-million, and got an even quicker call.

Trevor: Ace of Clubs 2 of Hearts
Rodney: Ace of Spades King of Hearts

Rodney’s big-slick held for the win on a 7 of Hearts 10 of Spades 7 of Spades 6 of Diamonds 5 of Spades board, and with that pot he became our Event 12 Champion! He collected a sweet $14,830 for his finish, as well as a Montréal Poker Expo Champion’s Trophy.

Congratulations!

    Heads up in Event 12!

Rodney Ramalho stormed ahead on the final table to take a massive chip lead in the tournament, and it’s somehow fitting that he must play heads up against the massive chip leader for most of the tournament in Trevor Delaney. They’re now playing heads up poker for the top prize and the Champion’s Trophy in Event 12 of the Montréal Poker Expo.

Geoffrey Hum was on fumes following that huge loss with his set of Jacks but nevertheless managed to stay calm and at least move one more rung up the ladder. He got it in with Jack of Spades 9 of Spades and found the call from Rodney with King of Spades Jack of Clubs.

Community cards: 8 of Spades 10 of Hearts 6 of Spades King of Hearts 9 of Hearts

Unfortunately the 9 on the river was too little, too late for Geoffrey and he was out in 3rd place.

Randy Khalil had been the short stack for some time and was complaining about the lack of cards he was getting, and he finally pushed with 4 of Clubs 4 of Diamonds only to get the quick call from Trevor Delaney, who held Queen of Diamonds Queen of Hearts.

The board had no miracles in it for Randy – 6 of Diamonds 2 of Hearts Ace of Diamonds 9 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts and he was eliminated in 4th place.

Andreas Kanakis had been among the chip leaders since the very beginning of the tournament but unfortunately his run in the event ended slightly prematurely in 6th place. He was all-in against Rodney Ramalho, who covered him by quite a margin.

Andreas: King of Diamonds 6 of Hearts
Rodney: Jack of Diamonds Jack of Clubs

There was no King to come for Andreas as the board ran out 4 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs Ace of Spades 4 of Spades 4 of Hearts and Rodney’s full house took the pot and sent Andreas to the rail.

Just 2 hands later, Rodney was faced with an all-in bet from Matthew Bellsmith on a flop of 4 of Hearts 10 of Hearts 3 of Diamonds, and this time he shoved behind to try and isolate his opponent. He was successful and the players showed down.

Matthew: Jack of Hearts Tc for top pair
Rodney: King of Hearts King of Clubs for the overpair.

The turn and river were the 2 of Diamonds and 8 of Clubs and again Rodney was stacking chips.

Justin Miller and Joey Boczek were the two shortest stacks at the table and they have both been eliminated in back-to-back hands.

First out was Justin, who got it in with a flush draw on the flop but found a call from Randy, who had a worse flush draw… but made two pair on running cards.

Next to go was Joey the Birdman, who has had a remarkable Expo having made 4 final tables. He got his last 99k in with Queen of Diamonds Jack of Spades but had been called by Andreas Kanakis on the button who held King of Clubs King of Diamonds.

The board runout seemed OK in the window Queen of Spades but by the door card of the flop King of Hearts it wasn’t so great (the middle flop card was the 2 of Spades). The 2 of Clubs and 3 of Clubs didn’t change a thing and Joey hit the rail.
