Ami Alibay is a popular local player who joins us at Playground for all events we host as well as a lot of our weekly and daily tourneys. Ami has also had a lot of success in poker, and he spent the last year touring the international poker circuit extensively, playing in more events than he ever has before.

    MainEvent-D1b-2764

This year he plans to continue playing tournaments all around the world, but he’s adding a very generous wrinkle: he’s donating 5% of all of his winnings to various charities. The organizations that stand to benefit include the following (1% each):

    • One Drop Foundation
    • Fondation Céline Dion
    • Fondation MIRA
    • IDRQ
    • Maison de femmes maltraité Rive-nord

We wish Ami all the luck in the world as he continues his poker journeys!

Luong leads the field in level 9

Level 9 is mid-way through completion, and one player in particular has leaped ahead of the field. Chan An Luong is sitting on a stack north of 230,000, which is far ahead of any other player at the moment in this Day 1b of the Main Event.

There is a scheduled break in less than 30 minutes, during which we will be bringing an update on the leaderboard.

This is a small sample of some of the players to pay attention to today in Day 1b of the Main Event.

    • Mike Leah – Mike has been a well respected pro for many years, but in the past 18-24 months he seems to have found another gear and has vaulted himself from “respected pro” to “world beater” in a hurry.
    • Robert Notkin – Dr Notkin was the champion of the Canada Cup, a major event held here at Playground Poker Club in 2014 – and to win the event, he had to win perhaps the most famous (or infamous) hand in Playground history – the championship 4-way all in!
    • Marco Caza – Marco is a talented local player who has several notable results already in 2015, including a 2nd place in an event at the PCA in January and a final table appearance in a big event at Fallsview in Niagara Falls.
    • Ruben Perceval and Randy Khalil – these are two talented local players who have had much success here in Playground Poker Club series. Both of these players have the skill and experience to go deep in any tournament, anywhere.
    • Derek Lerner – Derek is primarily an online pro but has always played live as well, and over the years he’s had some success in the live game. That being said, Derek8 is still better known as an online player – but he brings the same high skills to bear wherever he plays.
