Event 12 is a go!

Our tournament director Martin Roy has just announced the traditional “Shuffle Up and Deal”, and with that, Event 12 is underway! This is a $500 + $50 No Limit Hold’em Deepstack Event that is schedule over 3 days of play. Tonight is the only starting flight for the Event, and players will play 13 30-minute levels before bagging and tagging for Day 2 tomorrow. So far 99 players have taken their seats, and late registration will remain open for 4 levels and a break, or until roughly 9:15pm.

Event 11 Champion: Rodney Hollett

Rodney Hollett managed to turn things around in his heads-up battle with Layne Trenholm, and came back from a 10-to-1 chip deficit to win Event 11! In the last hand, both players found themselves all-in on a flop of 3 of Clubs 8 of Spades 3 of Diamonds, with Rodney holding Jack of Diamonds 8 of Hearts and Layne 3 of Hearts 10 of Spades. Rodney made a boat with the running Jack of Hearts 8 of Clubs to win the pot and eliminate Layne in second place.

Rodney earned a cool $3,500 for his win, as well as a Playground Poker Montreal Festival bracelet!

Hollett takes over the lead

Rodney Hollett made a great call on the river to take over the chip lead. In a limped pot preflop, Layne check-called a bet of 300K a flop of 4 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds 9 of Spades. They both checked on the 8 of Clubs turn, and when the river brought the 3 of Spades, Layne moved all-in. Rodney tanked for a few minutes before making the call with 5 of Spades 7 of Diamonds, which turned out to be quite the hero (and correct) call, as Layne showed  3 of Clubs 2 of Hearts.

With that hand, Rodney moved up to over 2.5M in chips!

Hollett is on the grind

Although he started with a 10-to-1 disadvantage in chip stacks in this heads-up, Rodney Hollett has managed to grind his way back into comfort zone, as he now holds just over 1.3M in chips. The blinds are about to go up to 60K/120K/a10K, and we should see a lot of chip movement in the next few hands.

Layne Trenholm just delivered the knockout blow to Daniel Kwon, after having already taken most of his chips on this final table. From the button, Layne open shoved, and got a call from Daniel in the big blind, who had roughly 380K left.

The flop couldn’t have been better for Layne, as he flopped broadway and held on the Jack of Clubs 10 of Spades King of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds 9 of Spades board to knock Daniel out in 3rd. We are now heads-up between Rodney Hollett (385,000) and Layne (3,365,000).

Layne Trenholm just doubled up through Daniel Kwon again, but this time it was much more considerable. Daniel open shoved from under the gun, and Layne snap moved all-in from the small blind. Rodney Hollett tanked for a minute before letting the two chip leaders confront each other.

Layne’s cowboys held on the 9 of Hearts 6 of Clubs 4 of Hearts 6 of Spades 2 of Diamonds board, and he doubled his 1.385M stack, leaving Daniel with under 400K.

Daniel Kwon and Michael James McCormack found themselves all-in preflop against each other in a battle of the blinds.

Layne Trenholm’s momentum is picking up here on the final table, as he just knocked another player down to increase his lead. John Consiglio shoved a short stack from the small blind, and Layne threw in the calling chips from the big blind.
