Raphael Clayette bested a field of 250 players to become the champion of Event 9! After a deal was made 6-handed, which was based on a slightly modified chip-chop formula, play opened up quite a bit. We saw 4 quick eliminations before heads-up began between Frederic Charest and Raphael, and it didn’t take too long before Raphael ended up with a all the chips in play. He earned $3,435 and a Playground Poker Montreal Festival bracelet!

Event 9 in the Playground Poker Montreal Festival was a $100 + $10 No Limit Hold’em 8-Max Deepstack tournament that was held on August 27th 2014 at 7:30pm and attracted a total of 250 players. The total prize pool was $24,250.00 which was paid out according to the table below.

Note that there was a player deal at 6 players remaining. The players chose to reserve $1,215 and the bracelet for the winner and do a modified chip chop for the rest of the prize pool. The figures in this table reflect this deal. The order is based on the order of elimination once they continued play after the deal was made, while the prize amount is the amount of the chop. This explains why the 4th place player received the largest single prize.

We saw the action pick up quite a bit after the deal was concluded, and we are down to our final 2 players: Raphael Clayette (~2,500,000) and Frederic Charest (~3,800,000).

The final 6 players have made a deal, based on a slightly modified chip-chop formula. In order to entice the other players to agree to a deal, Wayne gave a portion of his share to the others, as did Olivier. In addition, 5% of the prizepool has been left for the eventual winner, who will also be taking home a Playground Poker Montreal Festival bracelet. Here is how the rest of the money was divided:

Sitting on just under 300K, Alexandre moved all-in from the cut-off in a unopened pot, and Olivier reshoved his over 1.7M stack from the button.

Phannasophea Muong had a rough beginning to this final table, as he saw 611K of his roughly 740K stack get shipped over to Olivier Morin in the very first hand when he lost with to all-in preflop. He was quite patient after that, and lasted almost two orbits before falling victim once again to Olivier.

In his last hand, Phannasophea moved all-in for 125K after Olivier opened from utg +1 to 120K. Frederic Charest joined the party from the big blind, and they were three handed to the flop. Frederic checked, and Olivier placed an uncalled bet of 120K.
