21 bags are sent to Day 3

    2018/07/29 - 20:21 by Jôle Simard

After 10 levels of play in Day 2 of the Playground 200, 21 players still had chips. 7 of them will start Day 3 as millionaires, and are listed below. Co Tran had a great last lap, and bagged 1,470,000 chips, the leading stack. Sébastien “Seabass” Drolet-Poitras follows with 1,325,000. Dave Jeanneau-Cyr missed the million mark by a hair, as he finished with 990K.

Day 3 is set to start at 7:00PM sharp tomorrow night. Three tables of 7 will take on the final day of this very successful edition of the Playground 200, where $24,792 awaits the champion. Don’t miss it!

When Richard Berenbaum raised all-in, Co Tran did not call right away. Richard was not stacked high enough for Tran to try and discourage other players to come in. Despite pretending like he had a tough decision, he found himself in a duel – a very uneven one.

Tran: Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds
Richard: Ace of Spades King of Clubs

Board: 6 of Clubs King of Diamonds 4 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs 8 of Spades

When Berenbaum failed at hitting a second king, despite the chanting, he had to walk away. There are less than 15 minutes to Day 2, after which the survivors will happily bag their chips, only to reunite with them tomorrow night at 7PM.

    A short-lived lead for Drolet-Poitras

Sébastien Drolet-Poitras made it 30K to go. Pierre Lauzé called from the small blind, interested in playing that hand. When the flop appeared, he led with a 50K bet, which was raised to 115K by Seabass. Pierre called, checked the turn, and gained some confidence when Seabass also checked, enough to lead the river with 100K.

Seabass put him all-in for about 400K. Pierre thought for a while, and finally called.

Seabass: Ace of Hearts Ace of Diamonds
Pierre: King of Clubs 2 of Clubs

Board: 3 of Diamonds King of Diamonds 8 of Spades Queen of Hearts 8 of Clubs

Great turn check from behind. Seabass climbed to over 1.5M, but has since dropped back to just over a million. He tried the driver’s seat for a while, but like a gentleman, gave it right back to Dave Jeannot-Cyr.

Players are now on break, and will play 2 more levels before bagging. Here are the current top stacks:

With just 44 players remaining of the 698 that began this journey, there are already 2 players with stacks of over 1 Million chips and the top 4 players all have double the current average chip stack. The leader, as we noticed a few minutes ago, is currently Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, but Dominic Boucher is following closely behind. A new entry on the leader’s list is local hotshot Sebastien Drolet-Poitras, with 854K in this stack.

An escalation of bets got 3 players fully invested on table 69. Sébastien Robillard only had to fade a jack to dodge Sébastien Proulx’s outs, and a a horrific combination of cards that would give Benoit Larochelle Legrand the desired upset.

Robillard: Ace of Hearts Ace of Clubs
Proulx: Jack of Spades Jack of Diamonds
Legrand: Ace of Spades King of Spades

Board: 8 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds 2 of Spades 10 of Diamonds

Proulx was covered and forced to walk away, while Legrand took a serious hit.

    Moving Day?

In a 3-day tournament it’s hard to call any day “moving day” – it’s more accurate to say that the levels following the bubble are “moving levels”. That applies to chip stacks as well as the movement of players as they circulate the room as tables break and balancing occurs.

Random seating often leads to some interesting meetings at this stage in the tournament, and for the past few minutes, two of today’s top 3 by chip count have been seated just one player away from the other on the same table – Dominic Boucher was moved to table 69 on seat 2, where Benoit Larochelle Legrand has been seated all day (in seat 4). Both of them are currently playing over 800K stacks and are among the top 5.

Leading the way in the tournament, however, is none other than Dave Jeanneau-Cyr, who is already playing a stack of over 1.1M in chips. Players will be on break in several minutes and we’ll be able to produce a new leaderboard at that time.
