    Event #4 Champion: Nick Nickoletopoulos

    2018/07/28 - 3:36 by Shawn McCrory

Event #4 of the July Power Weekend, the $200 + $30 + $100 PL Omaha Bounty Re-entry, got off to a slow start but steadily picked up pace until 71 entries were in on the action. The bounty hunting of the early levels led to 17 re-entries, enough to build a prize pool that easily surpassed tonight’s guarantee.

The early levels were predictably loose for an omaha bounty tournament, as any four cards seemed good enough to play. This trend kept up for most of the night. The only exception was during the money bubble, where hand-for-hand play lasted for a little more than a level. The bursting of the bubble coincided with the creation of the final table, and the action picked right back up once the cards got in the air.

At the outset of the final table, it seemed like anyone’s game, as several players were close to each other in chips. But before long all the chips wound up in front of two players: Nick Nickoletopoulos and Manfred Gunther. When they were the last two remaining, they decided on an even chop of the prize pool, locking up $3,595 each, leaving an extra $271 for the winner. And the winner was decided within two hands, as Nickoletopoulos won consecutive all in pots to claim victory. Congratulations!

With the blinds at 8K/16K, Carl Doyon opened the action to 35K before Manfred Gunther raised it up to 120K. Doyon made the call in position and they saw the flop heads up. The chips went in quickly on the Queen of Hearts 3 of Clubs 6 of Clubs flop, and hands were tabled.

Doyon: Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs 7 of Spades 8 of Hearts

Gunther: King of Spades King of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds 2 of Spades

The turn, Jack of Hearts, and river, 5 of Hearts, let Gunther’s over pair stand, busting Doyon in fourth for $1,190.

Gunther collected another bounty chip on the very next hand by sending Jean-Philippe Piquette to the rail in third. Following a three-bet and a call, the two players were heads-up and got the rest of their chips in without hesitation after they each flopped huge draws. But it was Gunther’s nut-flush draw that came in on the turn, leaving no outs for Piquette, who rose to collect his $1,660 ticket.

Lareau out in seventh, Jeanneau-Cyr busts sixth

Jean-Philippe Piquette has gone on a hot streak at the final table, eliminating two players in short succession.

Nicolas Lareau was sent to the rail by Piquette in seventh place, good enough for $710. Not long after that, Piquette busted Dave Jeanneau in sixth following a pre-flop all in between two huge hands. Jeanneau held Ace of Spades Ace of Clubs Jack of Hearts 6 of Diamonds against Piquette’s King of Spades King of Clubs Queen of Spades 7 of Hearts, and Piquette managed to river the flush to send Jeanneau packing in sixth. Jeanneau earned $920 for the deep run.

Although play at the final table started only a few minutes ago, two players have already been eliminated. Nader Ammar, formerly chip leader, was eliminated by Carl Doyon in ninth place when the two players got all their chips in on the turn. Doyon’s huge draw got the best of Ammar’s two-pair hand when the river completed one of Doyon’s straight draws, sending Ammar to collect his $470 payout.

Michael Chouinard followed immediately after, relinquishing his bounty chip to Jean-Philippe Piquette following a pre-flop all in. Chouinard had been on a short stack for the last few levels and did well to ladder up to eighth place, earning him $540.

Here are the chip counts of the remaining players:

The players are making their way to the final table in the Omaha Bounty Re-entry.

Manfred Gunther eliminated Ben Menache in tenth place to burst the money bubble and bring about the final table. With the elimination, Gunther added another bounty to his collection and collected some extra ammunition for the final table. The hand-for-hand play on the bubble dragged on for an entire level, thanks to several short stacks doubling up in situations when they were at risk. Gunther made the best of the situation by consistently applying pressure to his table, picking up lots of chips and eventually winding up all in before the flop against Menache. Gunther’s flopped set left Menache drawing thin, no help came on the turn or river, sending Menache to the rail in tenth place.

    Forino takes the lead

We have a new chip leader in the Omaha Bounty Re-entry, Jean Louis Forino.

Forino had been playing a slightly-above average stack before taking down a huge pot against two players, former chip leader Jonatan Goyette and Arthur W.

All the chips went in on the 3 of Diamonds Jack of Spades 6 of Diamonds flop. There was little any of the players could have differently, given how well they each connected with the flop. It was top set for Goyette, middle set for Arthur and a huge draw for Forino. Forino’s Ace of Diamonds 4 of Clubs King of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds proved to be the winner, thanks to the 7 of Clubs on the turn. The river, the King of Clubs, did not provide the paired board his opponents needed, allowing Forino to take down a pot of over 300,000 in chips and claim the chip lead.
