    The Shootout Champion: Haralambos Margaritis

    2018/07/30 - 1:02 by Jôle Simard

Event 6 was a shootout tournament, a fun format in which you need to win your table to earn a round 2 seat, where everybody gets a share of the prize pool. 120 players took part, indicating that our player base is fond of sit & gos! To succeed in it, you need to be able to adjust your game as players get eliminated.

17 players did just that, and showed up on the final 2 tables with a minimum prize of $220. Kristopher Chaykowski was very active in the early round 2 action. His stack was the most volatile, as he was trying to earn enough to indulge in big stack play. Down on his luck, he did not make the final table.

Alexandre Mongrain played a solid game, but got crippled by the eventual champion when a gutshot appeared out of the blue to pass the flopped set. Mongrain, despite tripling up to an almost playable stack, left shortly after, sharing 6th and 7th place with Andy D’Alessandro.

Five players agreed to a modified ICM calculation, and as is customary when only 2% of the pot remain, the events that followed were lightning fast and devoid of any deep strategy. When the dust settled, Haralambos Margaritis was left alone, with a suited ace in one hand and a beer in the other. His added $200 got him the biggest payday.

    Congratulations!

The Shootout Champion: Haralambos Margaritis – $1910

    Runner-ups: Patrick St-Onge (2nd), Diego Aguilar (3rd), Tanvir Ahmed (4th) and David St-Louis (5th)

After the double elimination, the remaining 5 players asked for the clock to be stopped n order to discuss a deal. The numbers that they agreed upon are derived from the ICM calculations, but some money was taken off the bigger stack and added to the smaller.

Play will surely accelerate, as there are now only $200 in play, in a winner-take-all fashion. Here are the secured prizes:

In an extremely rare event, positions 6th and 7th were chopped! Alexandre Mongrain and Andy D’Alessandro both had exactly 101K when they fell under David St-Louis’ wrath. 303K were invested pre-flop.

Mongrain: Jack of Spades Jack of Hearts
D’Alessandro: Ace of Clubs 10 of Clubs
St-Louis: King of Hearts 8 of Spades

Board: King of Spades King of Diamonds 6 of Hearts 7 of Diamonds 10 of Spades

St-Louis was pretty happy with the flop. His hit held up nicely and Mongrain and D’Alessandro went home with $465 each. Excellent work!

Alexandre Mongrain suffered a brutal beat, losing almost all of his healthy stack after flopping top set. When he checked it, Haralambos Margaritis picked up a gutshot and decided to call the turn bet and rivered gin.

On the following hand, Mongrain, not in the best of moods, raised all-in. He was called by Diego Aguilar, and Alexandre Pruneau went all-in himself for 135K, with the best hand. Aguilar completed.

Mongrain: Ace of Clubs Jack of Clubs
Aguilar: Jack of Hearts 10 of Diamonds
Pruneau: Ace of Spades Queen of Hearts

Board: 6 of Diamonds 7 of Spades 3 of Spades Jack of Diamonds 8 of Clubs

A very fortunate turn for both Mongrain and Aguilar. Pruneau, however, was the first final table casualty, victim of a severe turn card. He got $330 for his final table appearance. Jérémy Lecheminant was eliminated shortly after in a hand that we missed and was handed a ticket worth $380. Nice run by both!

Haralambos Margaritis open-shoved with 195K, and it only took a second for Kristopher Chaykowski to make the call under with about 150K to his name.

Margaritis: Ace of Clubs Queen of Clubs
Chaykowski: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

Board: 6 of Diamonds Ace of Spades 7 of Hearts King of Clubs 8 of Diamonds

    Kristopher Chaykowski
    Janna Pedicelli

Two hands after, Margaritis raised and was shoved on by Janna Pedicelli from the big blind, for 165K. He made the call with ace-jack and found himself in a race against nines. The flop featured a set for the lady, but Margaritis’ gutshot came in, and the final table was formed!

The shootout finalists just took a short break, allowing the T500 chips to be raced off the tables. Recent events saw Tam Ho leave in 14th place and Maxime-Olivier Sevegny bust in 13th. Diego Aguilar is our current chip leader, with David St-Louis and Alexandre Mongrain not far behind.
