The players are off on their third break of the evening, and Spencer Jean-Baptiste still holds a commanding chip lead over the rest of the field. Michael Mckinnon jumped up the leader board over the last few levels to now sit second in chips.

To everyone’s surprise, the field has been stagnant for nearly two levels. While the players had been hitting the rail one after the other for most of the evening, the prospect of the money bubble put the brakes on the action and kept the field steady at 20 players.

Here are the current chip leaders:

The field is down to 22 players in the Short Deck Re-entry. Spencer Jean-Baptiste has managed to extend his chip lead since the last break.

Philip Schrier currently has the second largest stack in play, having maintained his momentum since flopping a straight flush in a pre-flop all in against two opponents earlier. But he didn’t waste all his luck on that hand; he recently eliminated a player after going runner-runner from a spot where he was drawing very thin on the flop. Holding Ace of Spades 10 of Spades against his opponent’s 9 of Clubs 9 of Spades, the flop fell 10 of Hearts 9 of Diamonds 7 of Spades, giving him top pair against middle set, but after turning two pair he rivered the nut boat to send his opponent to the rail.

The blinds have crept up to 3K/6K, meaning that the chip average provides roughly 20 big blinds so it comes as no surprise that many stacks below that point are simply moving all in pre-flop rather than trying to play small ball poker.

As play continues in level 11, the stacks are getting deeper and the decisions are taking on more importance now that the money bubbles has appeared in the distance. The action has taken on a (slightly) more subdued tone than the earlier levels, but there are still lots of chips changing hands.

Here is a look at some of the remaining players:

The Short Deck Re-entry has reached its second break of the evening, and 37 players remain in contention. This format has lived up to the hype so far tonight, with lots of wild action throughout the first ten levels.

The stacks have leveled out since the last break; only the chip leader, Spencer Jean-Baptiste, has more than double the current chip average. When the players return from break, the average stack will provide roughly 35 big blinds, which, with the way this tournament is playing, probably won’t feel like enough for most players in the field.

Although the re-entry period ended long ago, the players show no signs of slowing down. A good example of the type of play we are seeing just unfolded on table 55.

With the blinds at 600/1.2K, an all in for less than ten big blinds started the action. Philip Schrier decided it was time to take a shot and moved all in for slightly more before a third player joined in and moved all in for less. Schrier’s King of Hearts Jack of Hearts was up against Queen of Diamonds Queen of Spades and King of Clubs Jack of Diamonds. Not a terrible spot, but he had probably hoped for better. But he could not have asked for a better flop: 9 of Hearts 10 of Hearts Queen of Hearts hit the table, giving him a straight flush and leaving both of his opponents drawing dead. The 9 of Clubs turn and 8 of Clubs were irrelevant, and Schrier multiplied his stack.

Thanks to the healthy turnout and huge number of re-entries, the Short Deck Re-entry has generated a prize pool that far exceeds this event’s guarantee. With 70 players left in the field and the top 18 finishers making the money, those left in the field are closer to the prizes than they might expect at this stage. But that’s not to say it will be easy to get there; if the frantic action of the early levels is any indication then it’s going to be a wild ride to the end.
