Today’s event #8 has been moving on at a rapid pace and shows no real signs of abating. Just 22 players remain of the 73 who started today, with another elimination coming every couple of minutes. Before long, the field will be at two tables and then they’re in striking distance of a final table.

During the recent break we were able to find 3 players at the top of the leaderboard that are playing stacks of greater than 100,000 tournament chips: Denis Lafrenière (143,500), Spencer Jean-Baptiste (116,300), and Yvon Robert Blais (109,500). They are followed, however, by a group of players in the 75K and up zone – players who could challenge to join the top stacks in a single hand.
With 31 players still in the event, there’s a long way to go before anything is settled today!
The registration period is now over, and with it, rebuys are no longer permitted and no new players are allowed to join. There were a total of 73 players and 30 rebuys in the event today, contributing to a prize pool of $4,995. This signals a new phase in the event – the rebuy tournament has become a freezeout!
It’s early to take too much of an interest in relative stack sizes, but still it’s noteworthy that Diego Aguilar has managed to accumulate almost 80K by the first break!
The tournament clock continues to tick down towards the end of late registration, which comes in about 15 minutes. There are already 24 rebuys so far – with a last-minute flurry expected in the nest 5 minutes – and on top of the 67 total entries, the prize pool in the tournament has moved well past the prize pool guarantee.
The action in Event #8 is underway in the Tournament Hall – in fact, level 2 is almost complete with 42 players seated. Late registration is still available for over 90 minutes – 1 hour and 35 minutes, to be precise – and there are 2 rebuys so far.

Today’s tournament at 12:00pm is the final daytime tournament in this edition of the Power Weekend, and it should be a good one! The tournament is a time-honoured format here at Playground Poker Club – a $50 + $10 NL Hold’em Rebuy tournament. This was one of the first formats on the regular daily tournament schedule when we opened in 2010, and although Re-entry tournaments are now more common than the Rebuy format, there’s something to be said for a tournament in which a player who is eliminated doesn’t just start as if he or she were a new entry, but continues at the same table with a new stack.
There are unlimited Rebuys allowed in the tournament during the late registration period, which continues until the beginning of level 7. That means that players have from 12:00pm until 2:15pm to enter the tournament and to rebuy if needed. Players can rebuy any time their stack dwindles to less than 5,000 tournament chips.
