The 6-Max Bounty Champion: Sébastien Proulx

    2018/07/31 - 4:31 by Jôle Simard

Event 9 was a $200 +$30 + $100 6-Max Bounty, a player favourite and the closing event of the July Power Weekend. Participation was huge, made up of tournament regulars, occasionals and even cash game players. 178 entries were accounted for, and a huge prize pool was formed.

Danny Ibrahim was the first player to enjoy a crushing lead, having almost twice as many chips as his closest opponent at one point. He did take part in the final table chop.

Jonathan Bussières, a very experienced player, was on the hunt. He went after those bounties relentlessly, and his aggressive style and calculated risks got him pretty deep, until he lost a huge pot against Sébastien Proulx for all his chips and missed the final table by one position.

As soon as the final table formed, players agreed to a deal that sped up play considerably. Quick confrontations led to Assouline and Proulx fighting for the extra $700. The duel lasted about 15 minutes. It could have gone much longer, because both players were truly trying to get the extra cash and the title, but 2 premium hands were dealt, and Proulx’s jacks held up.

    Congratulations on a solid performance!

Champion of Event 9: Sébastien Proulx – $6,821

    Runner-up: Simon Assouline – $2,980

Play has been rather wild since the ICM deal was concluded. A 3-way all-in god rid of 2 players in the following moments, and showdowns kept going. Frédérick Laurin Fortin left in 5th , followed by Danny Ibrahim in 4th and Nizar T in 3rd. Congratulations on a nice performance!

Simon Assouline and Sébastien Proulx are now heads-up with a certain depth of stack, both looking to add $700 to their secured prize and almost even in chips.

Nicola Isaev was the first to commit his stack. Carl Doyon went all-in on top and Simon Assouline called, covering both by a mile.

Isaev: King of Diamonds 5 of Clubs
Doyon: Ace of Clubs King of Hearts
Assouline: Queen of Hearts 7 of Hearts

Board: 8 of Spades 5 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 6 of Clubs 2 of Diamonds

Assouline now has a stack to rival with Sébastien Proulx. Play continues.

When the tournament manager brought the numbers to the table, massive chip leader Sébastien Proulx refused the deal. Play resumed with 6 players stunned. They could not believe that Proulx had refused 2nd place money. Nizar offered to give him an extra $50, and when everybody followed suit. Proulx finally caved in and a deal was struck.

The Bounty Event is now playing winner-take-all style for $700, plus a few bounties. Here are the secured amounts:

The biggest pot of the night so far saw Sébastien Proulx and Jonathan Bussières get it in pre-flop.

Proulx: 10 of Hearts 10 of Diamonds
Bussières: Ace of Hearts Jack of Diamonds

Board: 8 of Hearts 8 of Clubs 8 of Spades 3 of Clubs 6 of Clubs

Proulx, after doubling up, may have taken out the most dangerous player in the remaining field, or at least the most experienced in terms of big money final tables.

Bussières played a great game of calculated risk. He leaves with a huge pile of bounties and $1,020. Congratulations!

    Jonathan Bussières

    Bad Beat for Czaja

    • Level: 22
    • Small Blind: 15K
    • Big Blind: 30K
    • Button Ante: 15K
    • Chip Average: 636K
    • Remaining: 8
    • Entries: 178

    2018/07/31 - 3:01 by Jôle Simard

Aaron Czaja saw a flop with Sébastien Proulx. Proulx checked it, and Czaja placed a 65K bet. Proulx opted to go all-in for nearly 300K and Czaja made the call. Little did he know, his draw was actually way ahead!

Proulx: 8 of Hearts 7 of Hearts
Czaja: 9 of Spades 8 of Spades

Board: 6 of Hearts 5 of Spades 6 of Spades 9 of Diamonds 2 of Diamonds

A brutal turn, and a non sympathizing river. Proulx is now chip leader with over a million chips, while Czaja is left with less than 200K. He lost them shortly after when Frédérick Laurin Fortin had the best of his 8s with pocket aces.

On the other table, Carl Doyon reshoved on Nizar’s button raise, and found a call. His deuces held against Nizar’s ace-ten, and he climbed to 600K.

Aaron Lawrence Czaja takes $880 for his 9th place finish, leaving everybody else with a 4-figure prize. Nice run!
