The first Champion in the October Power Weekend: Mike Lafable!

    2018/10/03 - 20:06 by Jôle Simard

Event #1 in the October Power Weekend was a $100 + $10 8-Max Re-entry. 72 entries joined the tourney, and 9 players got paid. It took about 6 hours to get to the final table, but the final 9 got it done in just an hour and a half!

When Michael Zenetzis left in 3rd, heads up play was between Anderson F and Mike Lafable. The pair have played together for the longest time right here at Playground, but today they found that they are also frequent opponents on the virtual felts!

Anderson, reportedly, worked his way into this tournament from a centroll that cost him 0.21$! From there, he worked his way through 4 levels of feeders to get the PP LIVE Dollars that he used to buy into the first event of the Power Weekend. What a parlay!

The duel did not last very long. Zenetzis had barely left the room when the two got it in. Mike flatted the button. Anderson raised him to 55K, which was met by a 200K 3-bet. An all-in and a snap call followed, and the showdown was the classic of all classic races. You already know what the cards were, but you can confirm your guess by scrolling down!

Anderson called for an ace in the window, rooting for his opponent, and it came! Mike was thus able to add $250 to the $1,550 he had booked in the deal the players made earlier.

    Congratulations!

    Event #1 Champion: Mike Lafable – $1,800

    Runner-up and 3rd place: Anderson F – $1,340, Michael Zenetzis –  $1,084 (picture taken mid-tourney!)

Michael Zenetzis played a great game. He was the overwhelming chip leader at the first break, and stayed among the leaders all afternoon. In the end, playing 3-way, he was facing 2 monster stacks, and elected to open-shove 180K from the button. Mike Lafable, sitting on his left, isolated and they went to showdown:

Zenetzis: King of Diamonds 5 of Diamonds
Lafable: Ace of Spades 8 of Diamonds

Board: Jack of Hearts 3 of Hearts 3 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 10 of Clubs

Zenetzis walks with $1,084, his previously secured pay. Well done!

ICM agreed upon, just in time for Goncalo

    • Level: 18
    • Small Blind: 8K
    • Big Blind: 16K
    • Button Ante: 8K
    • Chip Average: 360K
    • Remaining: 3
    • Entries: 72

    2018/10/03 - 19:08 by Jôle Simard

Our last 4 agreed to an ICM chop. The secured amounts are listed below, with an extra $250 awaiting the champion:

First Name | PrénomLast Name | NameSeat | SiègeStack | Tapis

    MichaelZenetzisTable 63 - Seat 7$1,084
    MikeLafableTable 63 - Seat 8$1,550

A few hands after the deal was struck, Miguel Goncalo was taken out severely. He correctly called Anderson’s preflop all-in bet, but the flop was brutal:

Anderson: 8 of Clubs 7 of Spades
Goncalo: 7 of Diamonds 7 of Hearts

Board: 6 of Clubs 10 of Hearts 9 of Hearts 4 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds

Goncalo, however, had secured a fair share, and leaves with a nice 4-figure pay. Good job!

Belzile, Ghaba and Cyr leave the scene

    • Level: 17
    • Small Blind: 6K
    • Big Blind: 12K
    • Button Ante: 6K
    • Chip Average: 270K

Simon Belzile was eliminated shortly after the last break in a hand that we missed. Since then, status quo was observed for the better part of 3 levels. Of course, there was some movement, but Mike Lafable was – and still is –  still in the lead with over 300K.

Omar Ghaba was the next player to bust. Lafable raised small, and both Ghaba and Anderson called. The flop was checked around, and Anderson open shoved the turn. He did get a call, which he must have thought was bad news, until he saw the cards:

Anderson: 4 of Diamonds 4 of Clubs
Ghaba: Ace of Hearts 2 of Hearts

Board: Queen of Hearts 8 of Spades 2 of Diamonds Queen of Diamonds 9 of Hearts

Shortly after, Marcel Cyr, who had brought his stack back to health but was blinded out again, invested his short stack against Michael Zenetzis:

Cyr: King of Clubs 10 of Spades
Zenetzis: Queen of Clubs Jack of Spades

Board: 7 of Clubs Queen of Diamonds 6 of Hearts Ace of Hearts 3 of Spades

Belzile took $310 for his 7th, while Ghaba’s 6th place gave him $370. Marcel Cyr did a good job at hanging around, and pocketed $470 for his efforts. Well done!

Peter Maltais was first eliminated from the final table. He took $240 for his 9th place finish. Chris Arvanitis followed when his Ace of Spades King of Spades fell to Mike Lafable’s small pair, played preflop. He took $280 for his final table appearance. Congratulations to both!

Anderson F failed a few times at knocking out a short stack during hand-for-hand play. There was an Ace of Clubs Jack of Clubs that flopped 2 pairs against Simon Belzile’s King of Diamonds 10 of Hearts, which hit the gutter on the river, and then his 7 of Spades 6 of Spades managed to chop a pot against Chris Arvanitis’ 7 of Diamonds 7 of Clubs! Flush for everybody!

After about 10 hands, Mike Lafable, on the other table, took matters into his own hands. Dominic Janvier was getting very low, with 4 or 5 big blinds to his name. He went all-in from the cutoff, but Lafable contested from the button with a couple of ladies:

Janvier: Ace of Diamonds 2 of Clubs
Lafable: Queen of Diamonds Queen of Hearts

Board: 10 of Spades Jack of Clubs 10 of Diamonds 5 of Hearts 5 of Clubs
