We encountered a quirky hand a few minutes before the break.

When we arrived at the table Jean-Luc Desormeaux was in the process of calling Robin Desgreniers’s all-in. Both players were seated on either side of the dealer. When a player is sitting in the first or last seat of a table, it’s often hard to see the player on the other side of the dealer.

When Jean-Luc called, he had not noticed the pile of purple 500 chips among Robin’s stack. So instead of calling an approximate 25K all-in, he was in fact facing a 35+K stack.

Both men tabled their hands and it was obvious Robin had not wanted a call.

Robin Desgreniers: Queen of Diamonds 8 of Clubs

Jean-Luc Desormeaux: Ace of Hearts 3 of Hearts

The board was dry: 7 of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 10 of Spades 5 of Spades 7 of Clubs and Jean-Luc scooped the pot with his ace kicker, knocking Robin out of the tournament and pocketing a $100 bounty in the process.

As he was putting the chips into his stack he said: “I swear that had I seen that purple stack, I would not have called. I was in for only 5,000 and found it extremely hard to call what I thought was about 23,000!” Players at the table agreed that being “purple-blind” turned out to be a good thing for Jean-Luc.

We are down to 8 tables here in level 12 of the 50/50 Bounty tournament. The eliminations are happening at a steady rate as we head into the second break.

We have updated the leader board, in which we included players with over 175,000 chips. Four players made the cut, none of whom were on the previous leader board. Eric Thibodeau is the current chip leader, with 258,000 chips.

It’s pretty rare that Playground staff have the opportunity to play in bigger tournaments like this, but with the end of the Power Weekend in sight, quite a few staff members are taking a shot. Here are some photos of some of our proud and talented young dealers in play.

    Best of luck gentlemen!

The 108 players went on break in the Bounty tournament, and the late registration period has been closed.

In total we had 152 players buy-in for this tournament. Fourty-four bounties have already been won, and every player in the room wants to grab as many as he or she can.

We went in search of players above the 75K mark, to build the leader board. Surprisingly only three players have that distinction. Kevin Levesque-Blais is in the lead by only a few chips. He is closely followed by Piotr Wielopolski and James Douglas, who has exactly 75,000.

In a bounty tournament we often see hands that involve more than one person going all-in. This is even more the case when each eliminated player grants the winner a nice crisp $100.

We arrived at such a table where Dimitri Tchakarov and Marcello Iacovella were already all-in and awaiting the action from James Bedard. James was calling as we showed up, then all three players tabled their hands.

Marcello: 7 of Clubs Jack of Spades

James: King of Hearts 8 of Hearts

Dimitri: Ace of Diamonds Jack of Hearts

When the flop came out the window was all James wanted to see: 9 of Clubs Queen of Hearts King of Diamonds

Marcello was in trouble, only a miracle would save him since any ten required for his straight would grant Dimitri a higher straight. Dimitri could still count on aces and tens though. The turn 6 of Hearts was a brick for everyone except James who now had a flush draw, steeling 2 outs from Dimitri.

But the Queen of Clubs on the river changed nothing and James knocked out 2 players in one swift move; collecting 2 bounties in the process.
