The field in the Megastack is down to two short-handed tables, as only 14 players remain. The top 11 will cash this event, magnifying the importance of each hand as we head down the home stretch to the final table.

Here’s a look at some of the remaining players:

    Parise still in charge

The field is shrinking quickly in the Megastack. The blinds caught up to the field faster than any of the players expected, leaving very little wiggle room for anyone at or under the current chip average. There are now only 26 players remaining, and the chip average will translate to roughly 16 big blinds when the players return from their break.

Stefano Parise has found ways to extend his chip lead since taking down a huge four-way all in pot earlier to still sit at the top of the leaderboard with more than triple the chip average.

Four players were involved in the hand when the King of Diamonds 10 of Clubs 9 of Hearts flop hit the table. Parise, the first to act, checked, and the next player put out a hefty bet of 25,000. This bet drew a call before the player on the button raised all in for 103,000. The hectic flop action gave Parise a tough decision, and he went deep in to the tank before finally making the call. The other two players in the hand, who were both covered, quickly put in their chips to create a four-way all in!

Hands were tabled to reveal that Parise’s King of Clubs 9 of Clubs needed to improve to take this one down. He was up against the bottom two pair in 10 of Spades 9 of Spades, a flopped straight with Queen of Hearts Jack of Clubs, and top-top with Ace of Hearts King of Hearts. The 9 of Diamonds on the turn gave Parise a solid lead, one that was unaffected by the Queen of Clubs river. And just like that, Parise sent three opponents to the rail and took over the chip lead.

    Frank-Graham takes the lead

The quickly mounting blinds have increased the pressure on the field, but a handful of players have managed to stay out ahead of the increasing price of poker. Anderson Frank-Graham is one such player, as the last few levels of play were very lucrative for him. He managed to run his stack up to more than double the current chip average, putting him comfortably in the lead. But there is still a long way to go in this one, and the short blind levels will change the dynamics quickly, so taking down this tournament is still within every player’s reach.

The blinds in the Megastack have crept up quickly (it’s a turbo!), and the field is now down to 59 players.

While most in the field were content to splash chips around in the early going, things will tighten up from here. The chip average provides about 37 big blinds, certainly still a playable stack but far from the hundreds of blinds the players had to start the tournament.

Here’s a look at some of the remaining players:

The Megastack easily surpassed the prize pool guarantee this afternoon.

Although the number of players was sufficient, the prize pool was helped along by 11 re-entries to bring the total figure up to $8,342. There are still 62 players in contention, and the top 11 among them will cash this event.
