    Event #7 Champion: Danny Boudreau

    2018/10/06 - 23:00 by

After a long and grueling day of poker on the felts of the Playground Poker Club Tournament Hall, Danny Boudreau has emerged as the winner of Event #7, a $70 + $10 NL Hold’em Freeze that began at 1:00pm today.

By the time play got to the heads up phase, both players were quite worn out and Danny in particular seemed very eager to wrap things up quickly. In fact that had been true since at there were 6 players remaining, and in a way it worked to his advantage once the deal had been reached because it allowed him to play fearlessly – and to amass a whole boatload of chips along the way.

During heads up play, every hand was either a quick fold or an all-in situation. However, even after a full double-up, by the final hand Fady Habashi was still covered by Danny and all the chips got in preflop:

Fady: 10 of Clubs 6 of Diamonds
Danny: Ace of Spades Queen of Diamonds

Danny had a legitimately strong hand, but he was clearly unhappy with the flop: 5 of Hearts Jack of Diamonds 10 of Diamonds – Fady had made a pair and was threatening to double up again, and this time it would have given him a dominant lead. The turn raised some eyebrows around the table: 8 of Hearts – but the 9 of Clubs on the river earned a fist pump and a bang on the table in celebration from Danny – he had made his straight for the victory!

Event #7 Champion: Danny Boudreau, $1,505

Danny Boudreau and Fady Hadashi are now heads up as Kyle Jackson was eliminated in 3rd place. The players are quite tired by now, and when Danny raised to 300K from the button, Kyle went all in from the sb. Fady got out of the way and Danny made the call.

Danny: 6 of Spades 8 of Spades
Kyle: 10 of Hearts 4 of Hearts

The board runout went in one direction only: 6 of Hearts Queen of Spades 5 of Hearts and then running spades: 2 of Spades 9 of Spades to improve Danny from a small pair all the way to a flush – and he stacked Kyle’s chips to move to the heads up phase of the event with a solid chip lead.

    Play continues in level 23.

    Patenaude makes his exit

As he made his way to the counter to pick up his payout ticket, Michel Patenaude mentioned that he was glad to have made a good deal when he had the chips… because after a couple of reversals (and the wide open play occurring now), he has been eliminated in 4th place.

Danny Boudreau was the beneficiary of those chips, and he has taken over a commanding lead as play continues 3-handed.

    The hands are playing themselves

    • Level: 22
    • Small Blind: 30K
    • Big Blind: 60K
    • Button Ante: 30K
    • Chip Average: 770K

With the deal having been struck, the play has gotten extremely fast and loose from a few of the players, while others are still working on earning that last $210. In the most recent passage of play, Frederick Bedard was eliminated in 6th place. A few minutes later, Kyle Jackson earned a full triple up from his bb after Danny snap shoved from the button and got a quick call from Robert Piche in the sb.

Kyle is now the big stack in the tournament while Robert has been sent to the rail in 5th place.

    They have a deal!

    • Level: 21
    • Small Blind: 20K
    • Big Blind: 40K
    • Button Ante: 20K
    • Chip Average: 514K
    • Remaining: 6

    2018/10/06 - 21:15 by

The initial deal in Event #7 was rejected because the chip leader, Michel Patenaude, wasn’t happy with the agreed-upon payout. Once he explained this, and another player made a suggestion of how to sweeten the pot, a deal was very quickly agreed upon that will be based on the same ICM numbers as had been generated before. $30 from each player’s ICM prize will be removed to form the remaining prize pool (for the eventual winner), and $45 will be taken from 6 of the payouts and added to Michel’s.

Almost immediately after the deal was struck, Gary McIntosh was eliminated in 7th place.

    Clock paused

    • Level: 20
    • Small Blind: 15K
    • Big Blind: 30K
    • Button Ante: 30K
    • Chip Average: 440K
    • Remaining: 7

When play resumed following the last break, Sheldon Ashley and Jonathan Lorent-Frechette were both eliminated in short order, and play continued for most of the remainder of level 20 without incident save for a huge pot that was shipped from Danny Boudreau to Fady Hadashi.

As the level started to wind down, however, the players asked the floor to pause the clock so a deal could be discussed – specifically, they requested that full counts be taken so that an ICM chop scenario could be considered.

When the numbers came back, there were some misgivings and more than one player rejected the deal. Play continues.
