McKinnon does it again in Event #12

    2018/10/08 - 20:30 by

Michael McKinnon has done it again! The winner of Event #4 in this October Power Weekend has now added a second Power Weekend Championship to his list of successes here at Playground Poker Club – he has won Event #12, today’s $90 + $10 + $25 NL Hold’em Bounty tournament.

The event attracted 128 players, far surpassing the number required to meet the $5,000 guaranteed prize pool. The solid turnout for the event was matched by the speed it took to play – even with so many players to start, the tournament was in the money by about 5:30pm and the final two tables continued at a steady pace such that the whole tournament was over just after 8:00pm.

Heads up play between Michael and Steve Daunier was very interesting, in that Steve had been among the chip leaders for most of the afternoon, and coming to 1-on-1 play, enjoyed about a 10:1 chip advantage. No one was holding the cards too tightly by that point, however, and it didn’t take long for Michael to chip away at the lead and eventually to move into the lead himself – by a small margin. Counts were so close by the final hand that it was only determined after the full hand runout who had been at risk.

The hand itself was quite conventional. Michael raised all-in from the button/sb and Steve – though sensing he was weak – nevertheless made the call.

Michael: Ace of Spades 10 of Clubs
Steve: Ace of Diamonds 3 of Spades

Steve hadn’t gotten this far by relying on miracles, and there was no miracle in store for him in this hand. The board ran out Queen of Clubs 5 of Spades Jack of Clubs 6 of Diamonds 8 of Spades and Michael’s Ace-Ten high gave him the win! And when the stacks were counted down, we all found out that Michael had the lead – and now had all of the chis! Congratulations!

Event #12 Champion: Michael McKinnon, $1,803

    2nd place: Steve Daunais, $1,890

Patrick Longpré finished 4th in last night’s Single Rebuy tournament, and with hardly any time to rest was back at Playground this morning to join this tournament – and he had a great run, all the way to the final table.

His elimination hand was quite standard – he open-shoved from the button and Michael McKinnon made the call from the sb.

Patrick: Jack of Spades 3 of Spades
Michael: Ace of Diamonds King of Hearts

Community cards: 5 of Spades 8 of Diamonds King of Spades Jack of Diamonds 6 of Clubs – nothing there was good enough to save Patrick, and he was sent to the Tournament Desk to pick up his payment ticket.

    6th place: Patrick Longpré, $640

Thohahente McComber wins Event #11 Single Rebuy

    2018/10/08 - 5:13 by Playground Poker

Heads up action between Theo Psihogios and Thohahente McComber lasted only one hand – that’s all McComber needed.

No sooner had the dealer set up the table for the heads up action that Theo went all-in. He received a “call” before the echo of his all-in had even abated.

Both men turned over their hands with a smile. Theo was by far the shortest stack and had obviously decided to gamble with any hand, before the blinds chewed through his stack. Both hands ended up being quite respectable:

Theo: 10 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds

Thohahente: 9 of Hearts Jack of Hearts

Theo was happy with his top pair on the flop: 2 of Spades 10 of Hearts 3 of Hearts although he wasn’t thrilled with the hearts.

His instincts would prove spot on as the remaining cards put an end to the tournament 4 of Spades 5 of Hearts by giving Thohahente a flush.

After a lightening fast heads up we have crowned our winner: Thohahente McComber!

    Congratulations to all our winners!

Thohahente Mccomber – Winner of Event #11 Single Rebuy, $2,615

    The winning hand

    Theo Psihogios – 2nd place, $1,725

Event #10: Demondehare/Ravary are the winning team!

    2018/10/08 - 4:32 by Playground Poker

Heads up action lasted only for a short period, but all the team members got a chance to play.

The final hand came when short stack Alexandre Morel was holding 3 of Clubs 10 of Hearts as he went all-in.

He immediately got a call from Patrice Ravary who tabled 8 of Hearts 8 of Diamonds

The community cards reflected the luck Ravary/Demondehare had received throughout the final table: 6 of Spades 7 of Spades 5 of Diamonds 4 of Spades 3 of Hearts with the turn giving them an eight-high straight. And that put a close to the memorable Tag Team Event here in the October Power Weekend Event #10. Congratulations to all the winners.

The champions: Patrice Ravary (left) and Martin Demondehare (right), $5,255

    The winning hand

Maxime Turcotte (left) and Alexandre Morel (right) finish in 2nd place with $4,655

    Kurilenko wins the Playground 200

    2018/10/08 - 1:35 by

After four Day 1s and a Day 2, today was the final day in the October Power Weekend edition of the Playground 200. After starting with 487 entries, by just after midnight on October 8th, just one player remained: Mykyta Kurilenko. Mykyta defeated Gary Lucci after about 50 minutes of heads up play following the elimination of Cristian Muset. The final 3 players had made a deal, but that didn’t stop them from playing hard to earn the additional $1,995 that came with the Championship, but at the end of the affair, only Mykyta was left standing. Or sitting, rather, and posing for the Champion’s photo.

When heads up play began, it seemed like it was destined to go in the other direction, that it might be written in the stars that Gary would win. And indeed through much of the heads up period, the table was definitely tilted in his direction and it seemed he could pick up pots at will. At one point, Gary was approximately a 5:1 leader. Eventually, though, Mykyta doubled through and after winning another moderate pot, it was time for the final hand. The players got it in preflop and exposed their hole cards:

Mykyta: 8 of Diamonds 8 of Spades
Gary: 7 of Spades 7 of Hearts

Community cards: 4 of Spades 9 of Diamonds Ace of Diamonds Queen of Clubs Queen of Spades

And just like that Mykyta was named the Champion of Event #2, the Playground 200, and added the 1st place prize to his negotiated prize of $13,270. Congratulations!

Playground 200 Champion: Mykyta Kurilenko, $15,265

    Final hand of play

Sandrel Dugue wins the 50/50 Bounty tournament

    2018/10/07 - 5:25 by Playground Poker

After a short heads up phase where both players took out all the stops in order to win, Sandrel Dugue got the last word.

Sandrel went all-in pre-flop and Alexandre immediately called.

Sandrel Dugue: Ace of Diamonds 7 of Diamonds

Alexandre Cousineau: 10 of Spades 10 of Diamonds

The dealer wasted no time in running out all five community cards, but the flop was enough for Sandrel.

Board: 3 of Diamonds Ace of Clubs 8 of Clubs Jack of Clubs 2 of Diamonds

So Alexandre Cousineau is out in 2nd position, and Sandrel Dugue is crowned the winner of Event #9 50/50 Bounty. Sandrel also managed to pick-up 10 bounties, this will add a hefty $1,000 to his winnings.

    Congratulations to all the winners.

    Event #9 Champion: Sandrel Dugue, $2,955 + $1,000

    The winning hand

    2nd place: Alexandre Cousineau, $2,230
