    Shamshoum eliminated in 13th

Diana Shamshoum was almost eliminated in the first few minutes of the day, but managed to stage a recovery after being reduced to just 3 big blinds. She ran her stack back up over 12 big blinds before 3betting all-in from the small blind following a button-open by Todd Pierce. Todd made the call, and the two were off to the races.

Diana: King of Clubs Jack of Hearts
Todd: 9 of Clubs 9 of Hearts

Although Diana found the flop she was looking for, Todd turned a set on the 8 of Hearts King of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds 9 of Spades 3 of Hearts board to score the knockout.

    13th place: Diana Shamshoum – $1,170.00

Kwon takes a big hit; eliminated in 14th

Shaan Siddiqui just took a large chunk of Daniel Kwon’s stack, as his Queen of Hearts Queen of Clubs overcame Daniel’s King of Diamonds King of Clubs in an all-in preflop situation.

Shaan knew he was in big trouble once cards were tabled, however he managed to flop a set on the 4 of Spades Queen of Diamonds 9 of Hearts 2 of Spades 10 of Diamonds board to double his 193,000 stack up to almost chip lead, leaving Daniel with under 60,000 behind.

A few hands later he was eliminated by Riyaz Abdulla, ending his run in 14th place.

    14th place: Daniel Kwon – $1,080.00

Nicolas Aubut has just secured himself his 4th cash of this TonyBet Winter Festival, as he eliminated Jean-Philippe Piquette in 15th to bring Event 10 into the money.

JPP moved in for his last 69,000 from early position, and Nicolas isolated him by moving in over the top next to act. The rest of the table mucked their hands, and the two tabled their cards.

JPP: King of Spades Queen of Diamonds
Nicolas: Ace of Spades King of Clubs

Board: 2 of Diamonds 8 of Clubs 7 of Hearts 6 of Diamonds Jack of Diamonds

Husband and wife George and Diana, who are local regulars with a history of successful deep runs in and out of Playground Poker Club, found themselves all-in and at risk at the same time here in Event 10, but on different tables. Interestingly enough, they were in the same type of situation, as both of them had a small pair versus two over cards.

Diana was able to flop a set with her 4 of Hearts 4 of Clubs and vanquish the Jack of Clubs Queen of Spades of opponent Yaseen Siddiqui for the double-up, however George suffered a different fate, as his 5 of Clubs 5 of Diamonds fell second best to Ali Jouni’s Ace of Hearts Queen of Hearts, who flopped the nut flush and held on for the win.

With George’s elimination in 16th place, the tournament is now being played hand-for-hand on the money bubble.

A few more hit the rail

By the end of the first level, Event 10 was down to just 16 players, and we are just around the corner from the money-bubble.

Shortly after players merged down to the final 2 tables, Marc Andre Larouche found himself all-in versus Riyaz Abdulla on a flop of 2 of Spades 6 of Spades Ace of Clubs. Marc Andre tabled Ace of Spades 9 of Spades for top pair and nut flush draw, however he failed to improve versus the Ace of Diamonds :T of his opponent as the running cards brought the 3 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs.

In almost the same time, Senthuran Jeyaralingnam was eliminated as Mike Lafable completed his flush with Ace of Clubs 2 of Clubs on a 8 of Clubs 5 of Clubs 6 of Hearts 3 of Clubs 6 of Clubs board, outdrawig Senthuran’s 10 of Diamonds 6 of Diamonds.

Daniel Kwon leads the final 16 with a stack nearing 400,000, while Ryaz Abdulla and Todd Pierce share comfortable second place stacks worth roughly 300,000.

3 quick eliminations bring us down to 2 tables

Day 2 of the $500 + $50 is still in its first level of play, but we have already seen 3 quick eliminations, bringing the field down to just 2 final tables. This means we are now but 4 eliminations from players being guaranteed a payout, as 14 are schedule to collect a prize in this event.

Levi Stevens, who came in as one of the shorter stacks, was the first to go, as his Ace of Spades Jack of Hearts failed to improve against the 9 of Spades 9 of Diamonds of Gary Yeghiayan. Next was Patrick Cartier, who pushed his short stack with Ace of Diamonds 8 of Spades and fell short versus the Ace of Hearts Jack of Clubs of George Kazarian. Finally Steven Joudry 3bet all-in with King of Hearts King of Clubs only to run into the Ace of Clubs Ace of Diamonds of Todd Pierce. Steven was left with a few big blinds after the hand, but couldn’t find a way of doubling them up and lost a few hands later.

Here are the final two tables:

Coming up: Event 10 Day 2

    2016/02/09 - 18:50 by

In just 15 minutes we’ll witness the beginning of Day 2 of Event 10 in the TonyBet Winter Festival, which is a $500 + $50 NL Hold’em Freeze that got started with Day 1 yesterday and sees 21 players return to play down to the end.

The field going into Day 2 is varied affair. There are some big chip leaders with over 300K each – but then a couple of the most experienced players left in the field will start with small stacks (i.e., Jean-Philippe Piquette and Levi Stevens). There is a married couple still in the event, each of whom has had a lot of success in past tournaments both here and elsewhere. There are also two Siddiquis left in the event. We haven’t established for certain that they are related – but it wouldn’t be a surprise!

There are also a couple of past event winners still alive – in particular, this festival’s all-star Nicolas Aubut and past champion Mike Lafable.

It’s certain to be an active night!
