Event 6 Champion: Real Cantin

2016/02/04 - 1:34 by Playground Poker

Event 6 Champion: Real Cantin

115 players came in today with the intention of becoming the Event 6 champion, however they all knew there was only enough room for 1 of them to accomplish their mission. Action went on for 14 full hours, and many hopes and dreams of winning were shattered in the process, as is the case in every poker tournament.

Once the field was reduced to just 4 players, they opted for an ICM chop of the prize pool. Jonathan Bussieres, who was the massive chip leader at the time, agreed to take $6,995, while Jeff Rosenblatt pocketed $5,690 for his second place stack. The two shorter stacks at the time, Ruben Perceval and Real Cantin, locked in $4,780 and $4,275 respectively. Given that the structure of the tournament requires at least 2% of the prize pool to be left for the eventual winner, the final 4 played the tourney to the end leaving $675 and the TonyBet Winter Festival Champion’s Trophy for the finalist.

Real must have felt compelled to win the event, given he received the shortest end of the deal, as he then began staging what turned out to be a successful comeback. He first doubled up through Jeff, and then won a huge 3-way all-in which brought him down to head-up versus Jonathan.

Real maintained the lead until he finally found a call to his 3bet all-in preflop, and went on to beat Jonathan’s Ace of Spades 6 of Hearts with his pair of 9 of Diamonds 9 of Clubs. With that hand, Real claimed victory in Event 6, while Jonathan locked in the biggest prize of the tournament.

Congratulations!

Event 6 – Results & Payouts

2016/02/04 - 1:32 by

Event 6 in the TonyBet Winter Festival was a $300 + $30 NL Hold’em Deepstack event that began on February 3rd at 11am and played out as scheduled as a one-day event. There were a total of 115 players in the tournament, contributing to a prize pool of $33,465.00 which was distributed according to the following table.

Note there were two player deals of note. First, with 13 players left they chose to remove some money from the first 5 spots and make a new payout for the player in 13th place. Second, with 4 players remaining they chose to reserve $675 and the TonyBet Champion’s trophy for the winner and distribute the remaining prize pool via ICM chop. This is reflected in the following payout table, and accounts for the fact that the player who finished in first place was paid less than the player in 2nd place.

A huge hand just occurred on this final table, leading to Jeff Rosenblatt’s elimination.

Jonathan opened to 80,000 from the button, and Jeff moved all-in for 325,000. Real then 4bet all-in for 800,000, which put Jonathan into the tank. After a few moments he announced the call, putting both players at risk of elimination.

Jeff: Ace of Diamonds 2 of Clubs
Real: Jack of Diamonds Jack of Hearts
Jonathan: Ace of Clubs Queen of Hearts

Board: 6 of Clubs 4 of Clubs 7 of Diamonds 6 of Spades 10 of Diamonds

Real and his pair of jacks went on to win the massive pot, making him the new chip leader, while Jeff was eliminated in the process.

Ruben Perceval was the first to go after the 4-way deal was made. He lost a few chips following the chop, and found himself with just shy of 7 big blinds when he made a move from the small blind. Jonathan had a calling hand in the big blind, and took a shot at eliminating a fierce player. Ruben’s 4 of Spades 6 of Spades turned out to be no match to the Ace of Spades 4 of Hearts of Jonathan, who brought us down to 3 handed.

Here are the chip counts entering level 25, as the tournament went on break shortly after Ruben’s elimination:

Final 4 make an ICM deal

After several hands of 4-handed play, the clock was paused as the player’s were interested in discussing a potential deal. They asked for counts of an ICM chop, and made some slight modifications to finally come to an agreement. The tournament requires at least 2% of the prize pool and the TonyBet Winter Festival Champion’s Trophy to be reserved for the eventual winner, so we will be playing down to a champion, who will receive the extra $675 set aside.

    Congratulations!

    Jonathan Bussieres

    Jonathan Bussieres

Jonathan Bussieres has just won the biggest pot to date of the tournament, as he 3bet from the big blind when faced with a UTG open by Jeff, who replied with a 4bet all-in. Jonathan made the call, and the two were flipping for a pot worth nearly 50% of the chips in play.

Jonathan: Ace of Hearts King of Spades
Jeff: Jack of Clubs Jack of Hearts

Jonathan spiked his king on the 2 of Diamonds King of Diamonds Queen of Clubs 4 of Diamonds 6 of Spades board to scoop the massive pot, and take over the chip lead. He now holds around 1.5 million in chips.

With a short stack of 117,000 and holding a pair in hand, Levi Stevens 3bet shoved from the blinds over a button-open from Jeff. Unfortunately for him, his 3 of Diamonds 3 of Clubs were crushed by the 4 of Spades 4 of Diamonds of Jeff, and with no help on the 8 of Spades 8 of Hearts Queen of Hearts 2 of Spades 9 of Clubs board, Levi was sent packing in 5th place.

    6th place: Nicolas Aubut

Nicolas Aubut has been on a great run this week, having final tabled 3 events in 3 days. He started by winning Event 3 on Monday night, and then placed 4th on Tuesday afternoon in Event 4, after a deal was made 5-handed.

Tonight he struck again, making the final table of this $300 + $30 Deepstack event. When play fell 6-way, he found himself as the short stack of the tournament. Following an open from the button by Jonathan Bussieres, he moved all-in for his remaining 100,000 from the small blind, finding himself heads-up versus Jonathan.

Jonathan: King of Spades King of Clubs
Nicolas: Ace of Hearts 5 of Diamonds

The pair of kings held on the 3 of Spades 9 of Clubs 2 of Clubs 10 of Diamonds 5 of Clubs board, ending Nicolas’ run in 6th place.

    6th place: Nicolas Aubut – $2,100.00
